Had anyone had a surgical local anaesthetic abortion.. if so is it painful?

I had one. It was painful, I can’t lie, the injections into the cervix were quite sore, but the anaesthetic works quickly. I will say it doesn’t mask all the pain, it’s rather intense, but in all truth it was over incredibly quickly, probably about 5-7 minutes from start to finish. There were 3 people in the room, the lady doing the procedure, one lady scanning me and one lady who was stood by me at all times. They were all really chatty and lightheaded, they made small talk with me to distract me and it was over as quickly as it started.
I was quite sore when it was all finished and clotted quite a lot during the night, I was shocked by the amount but it was normal. I bled for about 10 days but it really was all okay.

They were lighthearted not lightheaded! I was a bit lightheaded though 😂

Ahh okay thanks for the reply and haha I did think that 😂.. I don't mind the cramps or how bad they are I'm just scared abou the injection .. I'm worried haha and oh you bled heavy? I thought it was suppose to be a light bleed after

The injections do smart a bit, but that bit literally lasts seconds before the rest of the procedure starts.
My afterpains were also fairly hardcore but this was explained to me beforehand as I have dc already so I guess the uterus is already quite stretched and baggy I guess, so possibly it’s because it needed to contract that much harder to expel the remaining dribs and drabs.
Actually the bleeding itself was far lighter than I expected, although as I say, the evening of the procedure I experienced a couple of minutes of intense weird cramping and lightheadedness and then during the night I lost about 40 ping pong sized clots (apologies, bit gross) - I was a bit scared but that was about it clot wise. A few over the coming days but nothing of the same magnitude.
I had it just before Christmas and feel completely recovered now.
Hope you’re okay and have someone you can talk to.
Only one friend and then obviously my dp knew, he came with me for my appointments (initially I didn’t want him to) but was glad he came the day of the surgery as I would have struggled to drive home afterwards.

Oh okay so you get after pains too! Now I'm really worried Iv had two children and my second one the after pains were awful 🙈... I also suffered 4 miscarriages last year the first one my son was only 4 weeks old .. Iv had two labours with no pain relief the second one I didt even know I was in labour I didt make it to the hospital so I think I could handle the cramps .. but thanks for taking the time to reply and glad you've recovered .. hopefully every thing will be ok Blush x

Hi, I have. It was very painful during the procedure, and i needed painkillers for a few days after. Can you have a general?

paz1234 · 11/01/2018 21:52

I'd rather not have general .. because il be on my own I ain't really got any one that could stay with me after and I have two young children x

Stick with the local Paz, recovery is so much quicker. I was on my way home within 40 minutes of the procedure finishing, and if dp hadn’t been with me, I would have managed the drive home, but I would have had to take it slowly.
He did the school run once we got home and although I was left to rest and relax, I would have been capable of doing all the usual dinner/ bath etc with them.

Gammeldragz · 11/01/2018 22:13

I was sedated for mine, so I wasn't aware at all during the procedure. Is that an option?

Star90 · 11/01/2018 22:15

I’m due to have a surgical next week I’ll be around 7/8 weeks. I’ve got 3 children already. Would this Early on give me after pains? I’m scared 😭 I’m having sedation xx

CakeNinja · 11/01/2018 22:23

Star, I was 8 weeks and 5 days. The afterpains hurt but manageable.
I can’t say don’t be scared, because you feel how you feel, but you really will be okay Flowers

Have you got real life support? Anyone you can talk things through with?
I didn’t take dp in for any of the chats etc, he sat out in the waiting areas every time, but the staff were amazingly kind and reassuring.
