Hi
I am currently 36wks+6 and i have been booked in for a planned c-section on the 30th as my baby has stayed in the breech position and apparently they cannot turn baby as he/she is in an awkward position, although i know it is the safest option for myself and baby i am so nervous, i am really worried about how it will go and how much pain i will be in after having it done, how will i cope in hospital when my dp has gone home....will the midwives help me or will i be left to get on with it?
I am also worrying about the possibility of going in to labour before the c-section as i have been having contractions on and off for the past 2wks, my midwife isn't too concerned about them but said to take it easy because i have started to lose my plug (sorry tmi) i'm hoping baby will stay in there long enough as i don't really want all the panic of going in to labour and ending up with an emergency c-section.......
We have a 3yr little girl who was born naturally, so i have no experience of c-sections before.

Am i worrying over nothing?

I would be grateful for any input on this xxx

Becca I also had to have a c-section with my DS (now 2.5). He was transverse and wasn't for turning so I was booked in and went through all of the thoughts and feelings that you have been going through.
However, it isn't as bad as you think it's going to be! I won't say it won't be sore afterwards, it is but it isn't unbearable and you will be able to do things (if you want to . The midwives were great when I was in and came and helped me with moving around and getting DS in and out of the bed etc.
The only thing that I think may be more problematic for you is your DD who you won't be able to pick up for a few weeks but you'll have plenty of chances to have cuddles instead.
If you go into labour before your date then I'd just phone up and tell them you're on your way and they'll then be expecting you and will hopefully be able to get you seen to as quickly as possible.
Stay positive and I'm sure you'll be ok.

Good luck for your new arrival.

I had an em cs after a long labour. The actual cs was fine. An elective would be even better. You can retain some degree of control. Ask them to lower the screens if you want to see your baby lifted out, you or your dh can have skin to skin straight away, you can have music on etc.

Of course everybody is different but I was discharged 12hrs post section and was physically fine. No pain killers. Moved a bit gingerly but it was physically not traumatic at all.

You'll probably have a spinal block and it wears off v quickly (I could feel my toes whilst being stitched). By the time I was in recovery I had full sensation. I could care for dd on my own.

Thanks for the messages

@ Tootles, what you said has made me feel abit easier about it, thank you, hopefully the midwives will give me a hand if needed but i'm hoping to get on and do things as much as possible, yes it's going to be hard not picking up my DD but she is pretty good at the moment in understanding that i can't do some things and we have cuddles all the time

@ Show, i hope i am feeling as good as you did after the c-section to go home that soon.
We are going to ask for the screen to be lowered just before baby is born so we can see, thats a moment every parent should see not just the baby being held up in the air instead like you do see on some of the birthing programs

Since posting the other day i had to have the midwife come out and see me yesterday as i started getting some pains and contractions and then started bleeding (sorry tmi) the midwife checked me over and said that she thinks the bleeding is a very heavy show and that cos baby is breech she thinks he/she has disrupted the membranes, although she doesn't think i'm in early labour she thinks it may be the start of things happening i have been told to keep my feet up and rest............with a 3yrs old, yeah right lol, i am resting as much as i can and am taking it easy, have been told to phone delivery suite if the pains and/or contractions get worse, i see my midwife on friday so i am going to have a word and see if the chance of bringing the date forward even by a few days is possible, only because i am worried about having to have an emergency c-section and all the panic at the last minute if i do go in to labour soon, but will wait and see, i'm hoping for a relaxed birth experience not a rushed one full of panic and worry if that makes sense?

Thanks once again xxx
