I had symphysis pubis pain from 12 weeks with ds2, but it was manageable with strapping and careful movements until I fell at 32 weeks which finished off my SP and affected my SI joint badly too.

I still suffer with SI joint pain too.

I'm keen to have a 3rd dc, but dh is more reluctant, mainly because he's worried about how my pelvis will be during the pregnancy.

If I've had it once, will I get it again?

I have severe SPD with DC1 (on crutches at end and induceed on due date beacause of mobility issues) I was on crutches from 12 weeks with DC2 and had to use a wheelchair by the end but strangely enough with DC3 I sailed through the pregnancy I got a bit achey toweards the very end but nothing to complain about. Plus the gap between DC2 and DC3 is only 14 mths so I was warned it could be worse.
Im now 38 weeks with DC4 and it has been horrendous this time, off work since 28 wks and sleeping on the sofa.
I dont think anyone can say if you'll get it again sorry not much help really.

LooL00 · 10/07/2010 20:32

Yes. Sorry that's not really what you wanted to hear was it?

ReasonableDoubt · 10/07/2010 20:37

My second pregnancy wasn't as bad as my first.
With DC1 I could barely walk - even with crutches - from about 34 weeks. DC2 - was quite bad mid pregnancy but actually eased off towards the end.

I suffered from early on with dc3 but so far this pregnancy (I'm 24wks) I'm fine

Got it bad in pg with ds but despite getting some twinges it never really developed into full on SPD when pg with dd. So for me, first pg much much worse.

Hi,

I had terrible spd from 14 weeks with my last pregnancy, ended up on the strongest painkillers it was safe to take, and having weekly physio. But this pregnancy, so far, there has been no sign of it (and I am 34 weeks now!)

TaurielTest · 11/07/2010 19:57

I am suffering again with it in 2nd pg but it is not so severe (I think partly because I know what to avoid). Advice from the Assoc of Chartered Physios in Women's health, do a great leaflet on PGP/SPD here, is that it's not necessarily worse or even recurrent in subsequent pregnancies.

Thanks for your replies.

I was hopping for lots more "I was sooooh much better with subsequent pregnancies" type of stories, but guess that the reality isn't quite as I'd like!

My spd was linked to gender. Ds1- nothing, Dd1- crutches from 24wks wheelchair from 34, Ds2- occasional use of crutches from 36wks, Dd2- crutches from 11 weeks, signed off work and in a wheelchair from 20 weeks.
So I'm pretty sure I could carry another son with no bother but couldn't risk another daughter.

MonkeyChicken · 11/07/2010 21:52

my SPD is quite mild, but I got it much earlier this time.

beakysmum · 11/07/2010 21:54

I have had SPD in all 3 pregnancies, but if anything it has got less each time.

I strongly think this is because I took up Pilates after DC1, which strengthens muscles holding the pelvis together. Maybe try it and see if you can strengthen your pelvis before you ttc??

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 11/07/2010 22:07

I'm still having physio 2 years down the line and my core muscles and pelvic floor are pretty strong, so that's a positive thing.
