I am 40 weeks tomorrow and yesterday evening started feeling under the weather - headache, sore throat, blocked up.

Took myself off to bed and within hours glands swollen up, whole face swollen, really sore throat, really bad headache and runny nose. Paracetamol is doing nothing. Feel really rotten and really want to shift this before I go into labour (after previously drinking rasp leaf tea and eating pineapples in abundance).

Just waiting for phone consulation with GP to check if I do or dont need anti bs as it does feel like a throat infection.

I also cuddled a 4 week baby yesterday morning (was feeling well and fine then) so have texted the Mum to let her know but feel very guilty too.

So could do with out this when I am days away from giving birth.

Sounds like you need a good bit of tlc from partner or mum...I know the feeling that you are coping with enough already. At 38 weeks I had an ear infection resulting in a perforated eardrum...on phone to emergency doctor who advised large amounts of painkillers even tho pregnant, said no harm at that late stage..Do hope you feel better soon and all the best for THE day.

Thank you blossum dr said it seems to be a virus/throat infection that will prob clear up in couple of days.

Feel a little better already and have eaten loads of oranges and iced water which I think has helped.

I just kept repeating to dr .... I just want to give birth, but I want to get better first!!!

I soooo sympathize ~ I've got a horrible sore throat, completely blocked nose and feel so rotten. Just hoping that it will clear up before the big day, as I can't imagine giving birth feeling this bad. I'm 38+3, but midwife seems to think it could be any day now.

Thanks misswisteria the theory is you will not go into labour until better as your body will not let you. You need to be relaxed so you can release lots of oxytocin so labour can get started.

I reckon as soon as we are better that is when things will kick off. Fingers crossed.

if it is any comfort I had an awful cold and sore throat when I was overdue with my first dd and was really worried about it. The midwife told me that your body sort of takes over and makes you focus on giving birth. I didn't really believe her but that is what happened and I forgot about feeling ill completely during the birth and after the birth it seemed to have gone away. Hope that happens for you too
