Is it possible/has anyone had a 'late' private scan?

Am currently 32 weeks with dc2. Apart from a few (in the scheme of things) minor issues all is well.

However, I am becoming increasingly worried about the baby as time goes on. In particular keep wondering about cord round babies neck, health of placenta etc etc.

I know these fears will intensify as time goes on.

It sounds awful but part of me cant believe I am having this second dC as it was so difficult bringing DP around to the idea. i know if anything happens to the baby he will not agree to us trying again.

So am thinking about trying to arrange a late scan privately, for my reassurance really.

I have had 'early/dating'scans privatekly before but have no idea whether it is even possible to get other types of scans done privately.

Part of me knows I am being silly but any info/advice appreciated.

Most private scanning centres will do reassurance scans right up to the end of pg I think.

yes, we are having a private scan package and our last one is at 36 weeks

my private hospital do a package too - they do growth scans and check the placenta, position etc. I will be having them, as I think it gives great peace of mind.

A quarter to a third of bablies are born with the cord around their neck, often more than once. It is only very rarely that this causes a problem at birth. So if you get a scan that shows this is it only going to make you worry more?

Same goes for a low-lying placenta. Even if it is low just now doesn't mean it wont move before the birth.

Some people believe that unnecessary scans cause more harm than good so you have to weigh up the pros and cons.

Are you at increased risk of having a placental problem eg do you smoke or have had a previous c-section? If so then discuss it with your midwife who might refer you for a NHS scan. If not, then being so stressed is probably more of a risk than not having a scan. Maybe try some aromatherapy/reflexology or similar to reduce your stress levels.

It sounds like your partner is adding to your worries. Is there a way to resolve this?
