Is this SPD?

I was wondering if you ladies could tell me whether or not you would consider my pains to be symptoms of SPD or am I just pregnant and need to stop moaning? I am now 27 weeks.

I have had a pain in my right bum cheek since about week 4 but it has not got any worse and while it slows me down and stings a lot it doesn't stop me doing anything.
Then at about 12 weeks I started getting a horrble pain in my groin that has stopped me straightening up when I stand and this has got progressively worse.
At about 16 weeks the pain then moved across my pubic area and feels like a horrible bruise. This has also been getting worse in recent weeks.
Yesterday I ended up having an ambulance called to work because I was found hiding in an empty office on the floor in agony with a suspected dislocated hip.
The A&E doc didn't make any connection with my pregnancy and told me just to get a pelvic belt to try and avoid it happening again.

Sorry to ramble but whenever I have mentioned this to my MW of GP they just tell me that it is pregnancy and I need to expect these kinds of pain.

It sounds very much like it to me.

Do you also find it painful doing things like getting out of the car, turning over in bed?

Sorry I should have added that I'm not a medical person, I'm 'just' someone who had it during my last pregnancy.

it does sound just like SPD - it is definitely not the 'usual aches and pains'! a friend of mine had it and it was a real problem for her so you must badger the GP until you get a referral.

Too right happyhildebrand!

I'm amazed at how many medical professionals aren't really aware of it.

Good luck mamjo and don't be fobbed off without a referral.

Definitely get physio and keep up with the exercises. I'm finding that a combo of physio and using the pool (mix of gentle swimming, walking and doing exercises) is really helping me.

Mamjo My friend got diagnosed with SPD after she dislocated her hip. Seriously badger your Doctor or Midwife until they refer you. Sounds like you're part of the pelvic girdle brigade.

It sounds like pelvic girdle pain, which I've had since week 20 of pregnancy. Go and see an osteopath or chiropractor (both of which can manipulate your joints to realign your pelvic area; this seriously helps with the pain). They can confirm whether it is pelvic girdle pain - if it is, go back to your GP with this evidence and force them to refer you to physio. Pilates is excellent exercise and gives you good exercise to strength your pelvic floor, but beware of walking too much as this will make the pain worse if you have no further supports. If you go swimming, avoid using breast stroke as this makes it worse. I'm on crutches and these make a huge difference.
