hi we are planning on ttc our 3rd baby shortly and im being ultra prepared!! I developed SPD in my 2nd pregnancy around 6 months from too much walking i think, it still comes back now if i do too much exercise or if i wear high heels all night! does anyone know any good exercises or tips to re strengthen before i put myself through it again??? will be even harder with 2 little ones to run around after this time!

I've got the diagnosis, I'm pregnant now and pelvic floor and lower abdominal, lower back strengthening exercises are supposed to provide some support to the pelvis despite the ligaments slackening up. Using a exercise ball to get your core strong may be an idea, and good supportive shoes? (I live in high heels too normally and don't normally do supportive shoes but I've been forced).

I'm seeing an osteo and limit walking and some days I'm actually pain free :S

Physio, pilates and swimming are really helping me - I wish I'd done more pilates beforehand so I'd have less issues now! Most of my physio is actually pilates exercises anyway.

I had spd with my first pregnancy. Because I was so afraid of being in so much pain again, I bought a support belt for my second pregnancy and had no problems (until after birth -- long story).

I am now pregnant with dc3, and at 13 weeks started to have pains in groin and back so bought another belt -- a Serola support belt. I just wear it when I'm gardening of doing any work that involves bending or going up and down the stairs frequently. It has helped already.

Once your pregnant, when you see your midwife, let her know you've had spd in the past and she should refer you to a physio who will give you some advice/exercises. The physio should also let you know if a belt would be of use.

Good luck tcc!

thanks for your help everyone, will look into getting a belt early on and doing some pilates to strengthen up. x
