I had my first in Shrewsbury but this time around have chosen to have baby No.2 in Wrexham.

Wanted to know peoples opinions/eperiences of Wrexham and what they thought of it or if you plan to have ur baby there aswell?

Hi I had both my DS's in wrexham (one aged 4, one age 12 weeks). The midwifes were lovely esp the second time round & really looked after me. Rooms were clean & comfortable - I dont think they have a pool though?
When you get onto the labour ward with your baby afterwards, they are not as helpful and I was left to get on with it unless I asked for help with something - which I didnt really mind as it was my 2nd! But did feel a bit neglected the first time tbh! And they werent too strict with visiting times either they let my & other partners in anytime in the day more or less.
I would go there again if we have another! when you due?

hi ohnelly im due end of October, as its my second i dont think the after care would bother me and im more of a 'leave me alone to work it out myself' kind of person so i would probably prefer that! someone i know said they thought the same about the aftercare in shrewsbury but i was quite happy with it! - the thing thats made me want to go somewhere elese was the visiting hours were awful - partners got 2 2hour slots in which all the other family members had to be fit into aswell which i hated so i couldnt wait to get out of there to be honest.

We went to look round there on my 20 week scan and the midwife did say there was a birthing pool so maybe its new, not sure if id want to use it tho as i went in the bath with my first and as soon as i had one contraction without my TENS machine on i cried and got out of the bath straight away! maybe a birthing pool would have more of an effect that a small bath so if its not in use i may try it out i dont know.

How long did they make u stay in there for?

Hi again - I didnt fancy the pool either so I didnt ask tbh!! I had ds at 4.37am on a thurs and was home by teatime same day as I got no sleep at all afterwards. I got onto the ward just as everyone was waking up, so it was a bit noisy & hot, and I kept looking at ds incase he stopped breathing lol!!
They were really good with visitors - I dont even know what the visiting times were, people were just coming & going all day which could be annoying if you wanted a bit of privacy but I didnt really mind as I was in a corner bed so could just shut curtain if I wanted to
You have to ask for everything like milk, clean sheets etc and help yourself once you know where it is (well I did anyway no-one actually told me to!)

YummyMummy1208 · 06/07/2010 20:35

that sounds similar to sbury. apart from visiting times.

i cant believe they let u out the same day! i hated it in shrewsbury the fact they really didnt want to let me go home until the next morning - DS was born at 11:31am. they said cos i was breastfeeding they wanted to make sure i did a good few feeds properly before i left with him, which really p*ssed me off tbh as i just wanted to get out of there and into my own comfort zone - my home! did u breast feed?
howz the little one settling in? u finding it very hard to adjust to 2 of them rather than just one now?

Hi, I had DD at Wrexham, but that was 9 years ago so might be different now. I had such a lovely midwife (who I saw for all my antenatal apps as well), delivery room was big, clean, en-suite, but no birthing pool then (pleased to hear they've got one now though). Post-natal care not so great, no BF support, I just wanted to get out of there and go home really. No one bought me a cup of tea after giving birth (which is the least you expect after giving birth really!), I didn't get any breakfast either but luckily I found a bar of Dairy Milk in my handbag! DD was born at 21.12pm, went to PN ward about midnight, home by dinnertime next day. I'm due 28th October and having DS#2 there, hoping to be in and out again.
Good luck!

How funny is that?! I'll be the mum with the picnic hamper by her bed (I'm not taking any chances about whether or not I get fed this time).
I'm having a boy! I already have a DS and a DD so wasn't bothered what I was having, just couldn't wait to find out. Do you know?

YummyMummy1208 · 07/07/2010 15:19

lol. well ill be the mum with lots and lots of chocolate so come swing by to share it if u like!hehe. Im never to be seen without my chocolate!
Were having a girl! so excited as we already have a little boy so now its going to be one of each and plus i love buying pink sparkly things so now i get to buy them for my own baby! yay!
was u early or late with the other 2? i was 2 days early so pretty much on time, thinking it will be the same this time round.

I've got a feeling I'll be late with this one, I'm really worried about going into labour on October 31st!
I was induced at Wrexham at 39 weeks, and it was a really positive experience, my MW kept me moving, got me into squats and on my knees and I had a nice quick labour (5 hours). The MW was really nice, I'm hoping they're still like that! I had my first baby at Chester and they literally strapped me to the bed and left me there to get on with it so that's why I went to Wrexham with the next baby. But like I said, that was 2001, so I've no idea if it's still a nice hospital... but I've heard such horrible things about Chester I'd rather give birth in the street than go back there!
Congratulations on your little girl! Hope you have a good (quick!) labour!

YummyMummy1208 · 07/07/2010 20:19

well thats kind of what happened to me in shrewsbury - once i was ready for pushing they had me on the bed lying down ~(which i didnt want to do) and in the end i even had the stirrups out! that was horrible using those. so this time around ive told my other half to remind me i do not want to give birth on my back! last time around i seemed to completely forget everythin i wanted and just did watever they told me to do. probably y i was pushing for an hour and a half.
by the sounds of it wrexham mite be more used to the more modern ways of giving birth - lke u said squatting.
how long was ur second labour? im hoping this one will be an improvement on my first!

My second labour was 5 hours start to finish, DD flew out after 3 pushes and I'm sure it was because I kept on my feet the whole time. I've got a birthing ball for this labour as well, little bit kinder on my leg muscles than squatting, but do look pretty stupid on it though!

monkeysavingexpertdotcom · 08/07/2010 00:14

No, but I was born there 46 years ago!

YummyMummy1208 · 28/10/2010 16:36
