anti sickness med not working???

Was prescribed antisickness med 'avomine' (or promethazine teoclate in its posh name) a week ago for unbearable constant nausea a week ago which had started in week 4 (now week 7).

Started on 1 dose a day, then quickly had to take it up to 2 tablets a day as it wasn't doing the job. Doc had now said I can take every 8 hours if needed, but this would mean setting my alarm at 5am to fit a third dose in as I'm so tired I have been going to bed at 9 every night.

Things is, although it seemed to take the edge off for the first few days, in the last couple of days I'm not sure how much it's helped - I sspent most of the afternoon with my terrible nausea trying not to throw up despite taking a tablet at lunch. Is this normal when taking anti sickness meds?

I'm just wondering if I should keep going with it or if I should ring my doc to see if other meds make more of a difference. I don't really like taking meds, but am so rough I need to for my sanity. I'm assuming they started me off on the 'most safe' drug first, and I'm not sure how many other safe ones there are out there, or even if the meds actually are working - ,aybe I'd be much worse should I not be taking them.

Your thoughts??

I would ask to try something else

I started off with avomine, which did work to an extent but it completely knocked me out.

I ended up on stemetil which worked far better for me. I still felt sick a lot but could keep enough down to function.

Different people respond to different medications, I'm sure others will be along soon with names of other meds which might be better for you.

All the best, hyperemesis is miserable and I hope you get it under control soon.

Every 8 hours doesn't mean actually every 8 hours, but three times a day, so take it as soon as you get up, middle of the day and end of the day, dividing up the times roughly into thirds.

I went on to Stemetil, didn't do a huge amount but it did mean I could eat something on the background of feeling constantly nauseated!

I have been on cyclizine which has just stopped working at 26 weeks so know how you feel, however you have a long way to go so I would make an apt asap and keep taking it in the meantime. From what I understand different meds suit different people and it's often a case of trying them out to see what suits you.
