Hi,
I am going to my first appointment with the midwife on Wednesday. The appointment end up moving so my husband can't come now. What kind of questions do they ask about the husband at the appointment? I want to come prepared.

Thanks!

I got asked his name, DOB, address, relevent medical history (his and in family), ethnicity, job, blood relation, and mobile/contact number for an emergency.

Why do they ask about his religion? Are they worried he might be a Jehovah's Witness or something???

I would guess the religion question would be to do with religious traditions that may affect the birth and antenatal care.

I think one religion requires that the baby hears the father's voice first, obviously there's JWs refusing blood transfusions, there were rumours about Scientologists having silent births (or was that just Tom Cruise?), maybe some religions would require a chaperone if a male healthcare professional was examining the mother-to-be.

I'm just guessing, but asking about the father's religion would flag up any potential issues at the start, so plans could be made accordingly, rather than waiting until they see the birthplan and then getting in a muddle.
