Consultant appointment

If you get an NHS consultant appointment, how long is it and do you typically see a consultant or are you more likely to see a registrar?

I ask because I have a lot of questions and would rather see a consultant. I am not sure if I would be better off just booking a private consultant appointment instead to make sure I get what I am after.

I saw my Consultant a quite few times including the first appointment when I was pregnant with #1, luckily he wasn't available when I had my swabs and cervical check which actually suited me .

This time round I had my first appointment and got a senior registrar, but have been dismissed to midwife care so wasn't an issue.

Maybe ring the hospital and ask if the Consultant will be there on that day or if there is likely to be a registrar in place of them.
I think it varies where you are.

First appointment was about 10mins with MW who went and got Consultant when ready then 15mins at the most with him, but did have regular follow ups, mainly with him.

First pregnancy I saw my conslant about 25 weeks and again towards 35 weeks (i think).

2nd pregnancy saw him at 16 weeks and not again.

Always saw my actual consultant and not a registrar but it is a clinic he runs once a week or something at a small hospital so it probaby is only him there!

I saw one yesterday for 40 mins but I had specifically asked to see a consultant. When I was due to see one after 12 week scan I saw a registrar and it was a complete waste of time
