Hi honeymoonmum. I am 40 tomorrow. So not overdue, but am also fed up. (Actually, I have been in denial... keep thinking I am a week behind myself. Until i looked at the calendar today).

We have a lot on this week. DH suggests it would be more convenient if it happened this weekend....

Esme01 · 29/06/2010 23:34

yes - 40+5 - doing alright so far. boy was on time girl was 10 days late so dont know what to expect and dont want to get anxious yet cos still got a long way to go to get to 10 days/2 weeks over. I dont mind being pregnant though and so long as it is in it doesn't need nappies changed, fed and its not crying. I can go out for child free coffee while my mum is down. Its lovely. Happy to delay seeing just how much weight I have put on. Good luck.

honeymoonmum · 30/06/2010 14:22

Yeah guess that's a positive attitude - just really can't bear the suspense of not knowing! DS1 was 6 days late so hoping this one won't be too much longer as 40 +6 today.

Lucky you Esme01 having child free time-think that would help enormously!!!!

HannyMonster · 30/06/2010 14:37

Yep! 40+1 today and really hoping that things will happen soon...it's the not knowing when it's going to happen that drives me nuts too honeymoonmum. Here is an example from yesterday:

Shall I drive to the supermarket? Ooh - was that a twinge - better not drive. No, it's passed...I'll go to the supermarket. No I won't. Yes I will. Oh, it's shut.

Know what I mean?

Haggisfish · 30/06/2010 15:15

I'm 40+1 too! I'm resigned to induction, and just pottering round as normal - am off to walk dog soon. Have a sweep booked for Tuesday and will be continuing raspberry leafe tea in the mean time. I caved in a bought a fan today - it's wonderful!

honeymoonmum · 30/06/2010 21:18

Why are you resigned to induction Haggisfish?

I had a c section so been told I can't be induced so it's wither out by next week or another c section.

Not sure I care now, just want my baby and to get on with my life and have people stop calling to see if I've had it!!!!

tallbirduk · 30/06/2010 22:14

Count me in!

I'm 40 +7 and have a consultant appointment tomorrow to "discuss options" as I had a c-section with dS 2 years ago (failure to progress) so I guess they will give me a sweep and book me in for a repeat performance sometime early next week.

I have a feeling things are happening though - lots of contractions over the last couple of days (no noticeable BH till this point) and they are getting a bit uncomfy now. Still very irregular though, so don't think this is it .

Could be though - last time round I went into labour the night before I was going to have a sweep and that was also 40 +7.

Keep your fingers crossed for me and I'll do the same for you..........

honeymoonmum · 01/07/2010 09:03

Your situation sounds identical to mine tallbirduk - failure to progress with DS1 2 years ago led to c-section. Now 7 days over with this one and facing another section if it doesn't get going - good luck today-hope they can do a sweep and get things going. I'm stuck til monday unless it comes by itself.

oh another day yawn!

JBroRo · 02/07/2010 19:03

Yes, me!

40+3 today with my first baby.

Not entirely fed up yet but do also feel resigned to induction - don't know why. Perhaps cos it's happened to a lot of my friends with their first.

Got a sweep booked for Tuesday so would be really nice if something happened before then.

However, really don't feel anything. No BH, no twinges, baby doesn't feel particularly low! Aaah!

(Hi to Hannymonster!)

FortunateHamster · 02/07/2010 19:45

41+3 and thoroughly fed up.

Though I know people in RL who have gone overdue and had to be induced, I am the only one in various baby groups I'm in online to have got this far.

I'm being induced on Sunday. Had one failed sweep (cervix still high/closed) earlier in the week and midwife didn't think there was much point in having another.

Induction means my birth plan is more or less out the window so I'm a bit gutted, but what can you do?

Indaba · 02/07/2010 19:53

Overdue with all 3 kids. Had 3 inductions. Lots of drugs. All fab! Honest!

Hang on in there. Its great...your babies come out that bit bigger & a bit better able to cope with outside world.

By the way, in France and some Asian countries they consider 41 as normal....so some of you are only 3 days "over".

Good luck everyone!

Indaba · 02/07/2010 19:59

Just read whole thread..

..please don't fear induction. My NCT tutor made me feel like it was the devils work b4 I went in (after a million failed sweeps) and really put the fear of god into me re inductions . All three inductions were fine. I had epidurals.

I know I can't speak for everyone, but there are two sides to every story and my inductions were fine.

JBroRo · 02/07/2010 20:39

Thanks for the words of encouragement Indaba - it really helps.

Thing is I was hoping to avoid an epidural but it seems to be inevitable with an induction.

beanlet · 02/07/2010 20:50

40 weeks tomorrow and already fed up to the back teeth. I have a sweep on Wednesday if nothing's happened by then, but have a feeling this baby isn't going anywhere fast

tallbirduk · 02/07/2010 21:47

I was right - labour kicked off early hours of yesterday, DS2 was born after many drugs and the use of some forceps at 4:30 yesterday afternoon

Hope some of you get going soon too!

Esme01 · 02/07/2010 22:15

wowee. How exciting tallbirduk.Congratulaitons. That fills me with hope. I am over by a week today. Still doing fine but would like to get going this weekend. Takes the headache out of having to organise school runs for the other kids etc.

FortunateHamster · 02/07/2010 23:14

Thanks Indaba, I really hope it isn't too bad. I can't see me going into labour before Sunday now. I hardly ever even have BH, never mind anything else! My main worries with induction are lots of monitoring (I wanted to be as mobile as possible) and needing more pain relief (was going to try and avoid pethadine/epidural).

Indaba · 03/07/2010 15:17

Just in case you don't know, the first style of an induction is something taken by mouth. You are not on a bed or attached to a drip. So you are wandering around the hospital gardens like any normal mother waiting to progress. I had a nice day sleeping, reading magazines, watching TV & waiting for something to happen.

The oral approach didn't work for me so the next day they put in a temporary drip for a couple of hours, then took it off and I was back wandering around the hospital gardens again!

Once it starts, I was told you have to have some time in labour without an epidural as your body gets into the swing of things (its different if you're a second time mother)....so you do get the chance to experience the "joys" of labour before the epidural.

So, I had a good few hours of being in labour and doing all my NCT birthing ball malarky, breathing exercises, TENS machine stuff (and getting annoyed with DH ) just like the non-induced labour ladies.

My NCT classes had made me so fearful of inductions and after wards I was annoyed about what I had been indoctrinated with when I realised that actually there are two sides to every story. I've had three good inductions ones.

(Oh and by the way, my v experienced midwife said 80% of her booked inductions go into labour prior to the induction).

Good luck ladies. Baby is nearly here!

honeymoonmum · 03/07/2010 16:01

Hi ladies-Im now 41 + 3!!!!!!!!! Thats 9 days over and I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever happen.

Anyone as late as me still??? All my friends due at same time have been home for days and even the cat next door has had her kittens!

Keep crying-any words of advice????

Seeing consultant monday and c-section booked weds as can't be induced. I really wanted to try for a VBAC so feeling upset!

Hope yours are all on their way soon and loads of congratulation tallbirduk!!!

I'm 41+4 now honeymoonmum so still beating you

Useful info Indaba, I think they start off with pessaries at my hospital. Am hoping to make some progress on first day though I know it's unlikely - think I'll go even madder if hardly anything has happened by Monday.

There's no chance of going into labour today. Everything is same as it was yesterday. Have had to stop going on to my baby forums as I keep getting upset at people giving birth before me (and yes I know how silly that is!).

Haggisfish · 03/07/2010 16:31

Hello everyone
well we have now done all the recommended things to hurry labour along, and I am now definitely getting twinges in the cervix and they coincide with the contractions. they seem to be coming roughly every 30 minutes, so fingers crossed this is the start of it all. I am 40+ 4 today and have a sweep booked for Tuesday - hopefully I might not need it.

honeymoonmum · 03/07/2010 18:54

So are you being induced tomorrow fortunatehamster?? Lucky you! I have to wait til monday to see consultant and even then probs won't get section til late weds and only then because I rang this week and demanded to be put on the list. I am same as you-no change and not even a twinge!

I keep crying too, especially as my husband came home from work and said he had just seen friends 2 day old due after mine and she is GORGEOUS.

So jealous now I can't bear it!!

Why do I feel like I'm a failure??????????? I just want to go into labour!!!!!!!

OP posts:
FortunateHamster · 03/07/2010 19:39

Yep, HMM. I'd be going nuts in your situation! I totally get the feeling like a failure thing, because I feel the exact same way. I was really looking forward to going into labour until it just didn't happen. BAH!

Indaba · 03/07/2010 20:01

Fourtunatehamster...you will go into labour..

..an induction just starts you off and then your body gets going......

...you haven't failed...

...think of it as someone giving your car a jump start and then your engine takes over

(Heronin I think us MN'ers should re-christian inductions to jump starts!)

(and sorry for rubbish info below....the first attempts aren't oral they are pesseries....ooops!.....but info still stands as you are totally mobile.....my midwife said we weren't allowed into pub at the end of the road but other than that we were free to party!).

honeymoonmum · 03/07/2010 20:40

People keep telling me I' psychologically blocking it and not going into labour because I'm scared-anyone buy into this theory?
