Upper back pain :o(

Just wondering if anyone has any tips - for last week or so I've been getting pains across the top of my back (in line with bra strap), started only when driving but today has been pretty constant and also now getting similar pain at front, just at top of bump. Any suggestions on how I can ease this? TIA.

Get a specialist massage? I get myofascial release massage regularly and it helps so much.

Also, get your bra checked - you can check yourself against the Bravissimo online guide, no matter what size you are.

In the meantime, try doing some shoulder rolls, neck stretches and upper back rolls (all common pilates warm-up) to stretch out the muscles.

I had this in first pregnancy, poor you.

Don't know if you do a lot of driving?

I did, saw a physio who told me to angle my rear-view mirror so that I had to stretch my back to see in it properly. Not so much that it's dangerous obviously, but enough to make you sit up really straight when driving.

Just a small tip but it actually helped a lot.

Feliena - either the chair is the issue (try sitting on an cushion) or you're leaning forward and/or curving your upper back. Try making a real effort to sit up very straight, roll your shoulders back and "bring your food to your mouth not your mouth to the plate" (as my grandpa used to say when I was little!).

Friday, yes, I have an hours drive each way to work. My yoga teacher suggested the same tip as you and it does seem to help a little. On holiday for a week now so planning to stay out the car as much as possible!

That was where I had my gallstone pain - could it be that? Does it get worse after you've eaten, especially something fatty?

LittleMissSnowShine · 03/07/2010 20:14

Getting this too! Only things I can think of is bigger boobs plus bra without underwiring is putting strain on the area? And maybe because of the bump I'm unconsciously leaning forward slightly so my posture isn't great...

Best thing for me is loads of cushions/pillows in bed, on sofa, even in the car to give support to the sore area. Hope you feel better!!

firsttimer78 · 03/07/2010 21:11

MissT, no, it's mostly when I'm driving. Don't have any other symptoms (apart from the bump obv!) so fairly sure it's just muscular. Gallstones don't sound fun - hope you ok now!
Thanks LittleMiss - I'll give a cushion a go in the car as well.

Fwiw, a properly fitted and supportive soft-cup bra shouldn't give you back ache. If your bra is giving you back ache, I'd get re-fitted at somewhere like Bravissimo.
