Am I just being lazy??

There is a site closing down and selling pre packed maternity bags cheapish.
Am tempted, are they a waste of money?
Should I stop being lazy and just make up my own?

Will try and post a link in a mo.

What a great idea, it has everything you basically need and if you're not overly fussy over brands etc i'd say go for it! i would get one myself if i hadn't already packed one, and i spent a lot lot more than what this one is going for.

CantSupinate · 29/06/2010 14:11

um, well, I didn't and wouldn't use most of those things, and the bag doesn't include stuff I did want. But if it makes you happy...

nunnie · 29/06/2010 14:18

The cheapest way possible for me If I go shopping for baby things, I tend to spend a fortune and buy items that I probably don't need, so if I can cut out the me part it might be safer .
I have noticed a couple of items that I need as extras like towels and dressing gown, is there anything else that is obviously needed that is missing?

japhrimel · 29/06/2010 14:25

There are a few things I'd want to add, e.g. towel, dressing gown, clothes for me, jug, drinks. I'd also want to take my own toiletries. And if the bag comes full with no space left, I'd need another bag, so not a lot of point for me.

DuelingFanjo · 29/06/2010 14:31

I refuse to buy anything from anyone who uses the word bubba

reikizen · 29/06/2010 14:36

But you don't need to buy most of that stuff anyway. You will already have toiletries (I assume ) and I bet you already have babygroes etc by the million. Probably have flip flops/slippers and dressing gown already. Just shove a few nappies in and you are good to go.

nunnie · 29/06/2010 14:37

It says the bag has plenty of room left for clothes and towels. It has toiletries, well enough for me I think.
I agree with the bubba comment though .

I need drinks, munchy food too thank you.

I am guessing the majority is trying to say stop being so lazy , bag also contains the words bubba

I think there is a reason they're having a going out of business sale.

In theory this is a great idea, but who doesn't already have:

  • Bags in a variety of different sizes
  • Their own toiletries
  • Clothes and nightwear for themselves for before, during and after labour
  • Baby clothes ready for when baby comes home anyway

And stuff like water and snacks you want to be able to choose for yourself anyway.

CantSupinate · 29/06/2010 19:10

And loose change for vending machines or newspaper, bring that.

nunnie · 29/06/2010 19:25

Thank you will pack some money too CantSupinate.

It's the word pre-prepared on the website that puts me off (as well as the fact that I'd want to pack my own bag - didn't you see Bangkok Hilton? ). What do people think prepared means? How can you post-prepare something? Grrr.

sawyerKaiandmummy · 01/07/2010 13:50

Hey guys this happens to be my company and i'm only closing down as its too busy and taking too much time away from her children/family. (It was meant to be a hobby and as I also have a life threatening medical condition, Some things aren't worth the sacrifice.)
The products are all excellent quality, well known products. Huggies, lansinoh, always, nursery time, etc. After being packed the bag is only half full.
It was designed for busy mums, emergency births, first time mums, gifts and I guess anyone else. Although they are not interesting to some, they are very popular to a lot of mums to be.
They're a great way to keep the cost down and to get it all in a hurry. They dont contain anything you dont need, and leasve you enough space to pack your own personal choices and are unisex.
Only you can decide what is good for you and your situation, everyones lives are different. All I can say is I have only had positive feedback from mums that have purchased my bags.
I wish you all the best for your pregnancies and births. Kind Regards

nunnie · 01/07/2010 14:43

I did in fact order one, just as I looked around and priced some of the items I would like to pack, and what with that and buying a holdall (which I don't in fact own all my bags are hand bags . It did seem the best option for me.

If it's only half full even better as I can add my clothes, baby coat (winter baby), dressing gown in and I won't have to use two bags, fingers crossed (if anything like my holiday packing, I may end up packing things I don't need). Another reason I chose this bag, as I wouldn't know how many nappies to pack etc, even after having DD all the hospital stay is pretty much a distant memory, I do remember having two bags one for me and one for her but as for contents I am not sure what I put in them, I do know I packed pre pregnancy trousers being hopeful, and had to come home in trousers that weren't fastened .

Hey, if that's your site I think it's a great idea, but a better idea IMO is to have a long list type thing and you can tick the box against what you want to put in, choose size/colour etc. There are some bits I wouldn't want, but a whole heap more I would - add in some options for travel size luxury shampoo/shower gel type things, travel toothpaste - I know people have this at home, but I bought everything new so it was all packed and ready. Here is my list I always use, and I actually used the majority of it all and half of it people never think of (i.e travel fans) but all the bits and bobs are a godsend once you are there, in labour in mid august

Righty -o, hospital bag (s) so far:

Labour Bag

Maternity notes
Birth plan (not doing one this time though I don't think)
Nightdresses (or old T shirts) (a few as I puked all over mine twice)
Socks (although last time I had fat people socks for my epidural )
TENS machine (anyone buying one?)
Books/magazines (last time I took a puzzle book, was great fun for me and DH)
Snacks and drinks (incl. energy drinks, boiled sweets, MINTS (dry throat alot))
Camera
Camcorder (eek!)
ipod
Massage oils (have to check good pregnancy ones, last time I just took baby oil)
Leg cream (that tingly stuff from Clarins I was on about as I was in bed alot due to epidural)
Water spray (so worth the £6/7, keep in fridge as long as possible)
Wet wipes
Hairbands (last thing you want is hair all in your face)
Clips
Hairbrush
Lip balm
Watch (with second hand)
Dettol wipes (for the baths if you have a bath in labour)
Face fan !!! (and spare batteries, will be mid August!)

Hospital Bag (me)

Feeding nightdresses
Dressing gown
Slippers
Nursing bras
Breastpads
Nipple cream
Going home outfit (last time was BIG tracksiut trousers and a big comfy top and I think my slippers!)
Knickers (BIG stretchy disposable, I found boots ones were not good (they feel like paper) The best ones are the ones when you stretch, they are like stretching a white dishcloth (see throughy))
Maternity pads
Toiletries bag - toothbrush, toothpaste, mirror, flannel, soap, shampoo, makeup etc.)
Towels (dark, or just not white)
Change for phone
Arnica tablets
List of phone numbers
Spare clothes for DH incase we are there a while

Baby Bag

Bodysuits (tons - about 6)
Sleepsuits (about 6)
Nappies
Cotton wool
Hat
Mittens
Socks (DS was born very cold)
Sunhat
Suncream (?)
Muslins
Nappy cream

Ignore some of the added comments, I copied and pasted a few times from old threads.

nunnie · 01/07/2010 14:59

The bags do have travel sized toilet essentials I am pretty sure they do.
As for everything else, you get a couple of options for colour and size.
I decided to opt for it, as everything in there will come in useful if not at hospital at some point.

It includes a puzzle book too, which is a bonus and something I never thought of last time, didn't even pack a book or anything last time.

nunnie · 01/07/2010 15:01

Asecret - forgot to say I have copied and pasted your list, to print off, hope you don't mind?

OP posts:
nunnie · 01/07/2010 16:42

Have to say, my bag has just arrived with DHL, and I am really impressed, everything is good quality and the only thing I can find that I won't use is hairbands as my hair is too short.
I have managed to pack everything in the bag, so that it is less than half full, which allows me plenty of room to add my extra needs.
I know they're not everyones cup of tea, but if you are like me and are lazy, or haven't got the time, then I really do recommend them.

Great list, Lemonade, thanks!

Have already started packing mine (with three months to go), including snacks, but have somehow raided it and eaten the chocolate already. Oops.

Glad you are happy with your bag, nunnie.

nunnie · 01/07/2010 18:27

AbFabT, that is the reason I forgot snacks last time, as I knew I would raid so left it till last minute, and went in before I got chance to put anything in.

Still using your list Lemonade for the items that aren't in the bag, so hopefully I will be fully prepared this time.

Hey guys, the good news is we are no longer closing down.... I am keeping these low prices for just a little longer, so if you wanted to grab a bag while still at this crazy price... get in soon as they are going really fast!
