Am coming up to 30 wks with DC4 and having on and off gob smacking pain that I don't believe I've had before.

And no, not contractions/braxtons. The pain is like a ripping/tearing around the top of my bump, going around the upper back. When having the pain, it's really tender to the touch. It's very all consuming like strong braxtons I guess, but with a horrible almost griping sensation.

I don't need the loo, as far as am aware, but could this just be really awful trapped wind??!
It's worse sitting and better if I can (just about) stand up and try to rock, leaning against the kitchen side or something.

This has been coming and going all morning and I am feeling like a right plank here, groaning away! It's stopped for now, but it stops and starts. Any ideas?? I will call someone if it gets really bad.

HI, I had something similar when pregnant with DS, it felt like a ripping/pulling pain at the top? It was trapped wind in my case - I was panicking about being in early labour, hopped into a warm bath to relax, and the situation, um... resolved itself, shall we say! I would recommend a bath, and if it doesnt ease call your MW?

I'd phone your MW and check that this is "normal" and doesn't need any further investigation. Whilst I am sure they deal with plenty of questions that turn out to be trapped wind, I imagine they would rather be asked and put your mind at rest than find out later if it is a problem.

Could be gallstones, although the pain tends to be constant once it starts, then goes. I went into hospital at 39 weeks during a gallbladder attack, although it was not diagnosed for TWO YEARS after!

I've just had this over the weekend - but I am 38 weeks so was rather hoping I was gearing up to go into labour!

It took my breath away for quite a few hours and I was uncomfortable in any position, but mysteriously resolved itself - still no idea what it was but had it continued I would have called m/w (or more likely labour ward in my case) so perhaps just call your m/w for advice.

Take it easy and I hope alls well.

Don't mean to alarm you but that kind of pain at the top of your bump can be a symptom of placental abruption.

I would call the hospital asap.
