Help - fish confusion

I try and eat fish a couple of times a week (bar tuna). I keep being advised to take Omega 3 oils, which contain fish oils, as it's important for the development of the baby's nervous system and brain.

But I'm scared of the links between mercury and autism. Hence, no tuna.

Are you taking fish oils and if so, which brand? I only know the Zita West brand (but that contains tuna oils, even though she's a fertility expert so it must be very well screened).

And do you still eat fish if you take fish oils? Is there a fear of taking too much oil?

Opinions welcome

You can get vegetarian omega 3 supplements that are derived from marine algae, if you're worried about the fish thing. They're the long-chain type of omega three, the same as you get in fish (EPA and DHA). They're a bit more expensive than the straight fish-oil capsules but worth it if you're bothered about that sort of thing.

Personally, I don't take supplements, however - I just eat mackerel or salmon a couple of itmes a week along with lots of other good stuff!

Thanks Emma. I don't suppose you know the brand of those derived from marine algae?

V-Pure seem to be the main producers - they're not the same ones I used to take when I was a veggie, but they look like they do the trick!

Thanks again. Will look it up!
