Hi everyone!

I'm in the process of trying to buy a mattress for our cotbed (a prairie one from mamas and papas) and am so confused!

Some say get sprung, some say get foam, some say with a cover, some say not...... and there are so many terrifying things that i've read that is making this the hardest decision ever!

I've tried looking through old threads but they seem more focused on price than choice, and when there is a link, it is often too old to follow....

Please help me!

xx

Hiya,

Dont get too excited as I dont have any advice however I have just bought the praire cot bed from Mamas and Papas (and chest o drawers, book case and trunk) looks lovely in nursery!

Anyway I haven't bought a mattress either and am so confused too! They seem to sell so many different types and price ranges from £60 to £400!!

Hopefully someone will come along to help us soon.

I've been confused too. I think a lot of it is spend as much as you can reasonably afford to get the best possible. E.g. the cooling top layer is nice, but only if you can afford that kind of mattress. Ditto to a washable cover.

IMO they'll all be pretty safe as we have such stringent guidelines on baby bedding in this country.

One thing I have heard is that sprung mattresses will last a lot better, so if you'd like to reuse it for another baby after this one, get a sprung mattress. That's probably best for a cotbed anyway as they can last up to when the baby is a few years old.

I bought a purflo one www.purflo.com/acatalog/About_Us.html for ds and have always been totally happy with it. It's hard to explain, but it's sort of mesh material stretched over a metal frame. Because there's no "middle" air can circulate all the way through it. Also, you can just take it off the frame and put it in the washing machine.

Because of the design and it been fully washable, you can also use it for subsequent babies. I'll be using for my next baby when I convince ds to move into a bed :-)
