Bugaboo Frog??

Wondering if anyone has ever used the Bugaboo Frog and if so whether they'd recommend it or not. A friend has offered to sell us her old Frog. By the time we have also bought replacement parts and accessories (new mattress, carrycot fabric, pushchair fabric, wheels, etc, etc) it's not exactly going to be a bargain buy. But still one hell of a lot cheaper than going for a new Chameleon. Would be very grateful to hear of anyone's experiences using this! Thanks!

Do you really need to buy the new fabrics and wheels (mattress I can understand)? How much is she offering to sell it to your for?

I'd prefer to buy new fabrics and wheels - it's been through several children already so the wheels are pretty worn and the fabric is not exactly at its best. And there might be a few other bits and pieces it needs. Haven't negotiated a price for it yet, but on Ebay they go for between about 100 and 200 pounds.

We got a used Frog off eBay for ds and are still using it for dd with the buggy board for ds when he's feeling lazy. I found it near impossible to get replacement parts. Most Chameleon parts, such as fabrics and mattresses, don't fit the Frog. I broke the seat board and it took me months and many emails to Scandinavia to get that sorted, and that only happened because they happened to find an old Frog one in a warehouse. I needed a new brake cable and had to charm the young man at Mothercare to give me a Chameleon one as a replacement, which was against the rules due to some arcane regulations on safety and childcare equipment. The brake cable is a bit long, but works fine. The fabric washes fine with the exception of the elastic bands.

That being said, this was absolutely the right pushchair for us as it's been a fabulous and held up great with daily use. If you're looking for a great piece of equipment I'd go for it . . . if you want something that looks new then I'd say it's not worth the trouble.

Thanks for the info! I went to John Lewis yesterday to ask about replacement parts and accessories and they seemed to think that most of the Frog ones were still available, although they are being phased out and you can't be picky about colours. Maybe I should make sure that I can DEFINITELY get all the parts, etc that I want before committing myself to taking the Frog.

I think if you can get the parts and your friend will take a good offer (which IMO if it is not in that great condition shouldn't be more than £120)then it's worth doing.

Re: break cable for Frog model, I emailed Bugaboo and they directed me to retailers for parts. They said they do not sell directly to consumers. Fair enough. It might be a contractual obligation to the retailers they supply so their hands are tied. Some folks have reported on other sites that a bicycle repair shop may be able to do the job. I have not found this to be true. I have been to three and was told that the double ended cable is special to the brand and they could not in all honestly guarantee a safe alternative.

i have a bugaboo frog, bought it almost 6yrs ago and will be using it again when baby no 5 arrives in nov. i have found it to be fab.

i have the orange covers and washed them several times and they always come up looking like new and i also ordered some fleece covers to be made (from someone on ebay) and it didnt cost that much, i had a seat liner and hood made so i can put those on. i did the same for a footmuff/cosytoes thing and can use that as a seat liner as well.

it may be worht looking on ebay as people are often selling of parts and spares on there

otherwise i have got bits that i need, like new front wheels (back ones look as new) but the front ones got quite worn, from john lewis. i got a mattress for the carrycot from there to, not the official bugaboo one, but one that fits, they were happy to let me try it to check

ime john lewis are fab for spare parts etc for the frog, i recently looked at getting the snow wheels you can get for the frog and my local john lewis had them in stock.

i asked recently about ordering new covers etc and they said that would be fine but it may take up to 8 wks depending on stock, but have never had it take that long before.

i truly lOVE my frog it has served us brilliantly and has been WELL used but will still be fine for my next baby and then my sister wants it when i am done with it.

Thanks guys! Having seen it, we decided against it. There was too much wrong with it and we would have had to have spent quite a lot to get it up to spec. Still love Bugaboo though - waiting for delivery of our new Chameleon. 4madboys - good to hear that your Frog has served you so well! Hope to get many happy years of use from our Chameleon!

I have also had my frog for 6 years. Just got it out and dusted it down for DC3 and still looks as good as new. We had to get a new brake cbale 4 years ago when I was using it for DC2. I emailed bugga boo and they sent us one for free no probs! I would highly recommend it. It is really easy to get up and down and lovely to push. DC have always seemed really comfortable in it.
