Morning ? I?m dual UK/American, and ?just? pregnant ? 4weeks today. I?m going back to the UK in mid-July and would like to buy a few maternity clothes at GAP Maternity. They?re having wicked sales at the moment, and I think I could save by buying there. A few things ? does anyone have any GAP Maternity clothes ? can you vouch for their quality? What would you consider essentials? I was thinking a pair of jeans, a work skirt, work trousers, and a few camis. I realize 4 weeks is super early, but am I crazy?

I got a t-shirt there and like it. I think the quality is typical GAP, so pretty good mostly.

It's not crazy buying maternity stuff in the sales - I saved a lot last year by doing that. However, I then had another miscarriage and so had to pack it away until this pregnancy. Some people don't like to buy anything because they're either superstitious or they don't want to deal with the stress of packing up pregnancy stuff if it all goes wrong.

Fwiw, we have GAP maternity in the UK too.

I've been in GAP maternity jeans since 12 weeks and have found them SO comfortable.

Hi, I've bought loads from them in the winter sales - a pair of jeans, a few t shirts and most importantly a couple of pairs of leggings and dresses and tunics to wear on top, sooooo comfortable and looking good too. Enjoy your shopping spree!

is GAP maternity only in certain UK stores? i've never seen it in the two stores near me. in the US it's in a few stores, but their collection is quite good online.

2 questions:
1- I'm quite comfortable in my 10Longs (US size). Should I order 10 or 12 maternity?
2- Under, over, mid bump style? what's most comfortable? i'm tempted to try a few of each. i'm justifying this as i reckon GAP Maternity has a highish resale value on ebay? (wishful thinking, i realise)

Hi meggles I have bought a couple of GAP maternity things and they are really good (also good for buying 'normal' clothes but in the smock-type style that will accomodate a growing bump!). I would go for 10 maternity - GAP are quite generous and having had this problem myself buying maternity stuff have stuck to my original size and has worked out fine. I think as long as you're gaining weight at an average weight maternity clothes should be fine in your average.

Under/over/mid bump is personal choice really - I've been using under but am only 18w so have been able to wear them (with a belt at first) for quite a while now. I think over might be comfier later on but not sure? I have over work trousers and they are lovely and soft and comfy.

Hope this helps!

I got lots of stuff when I was pregnant with DD in 2008 and DH was out in San Francisco working. Very good quality stuff. I got lovely jeans, tops and dresses and a fab cardigan that I never took off.

I found mid-bump (the half-panel) to be best until the third trimester, now I'm 35 weeks it really digs into the bump and is uncomfy when I sit - so I'm wearing over-bump shorts and leggings. To be honest, though, over-bump stuff won't stay up until you have a good big bump, so mid-bump stuff works well for the majority of your pregnancy.
Oh, and congratulations!

thanks to you ladies - I just bought $324 worth of GAP clothes! 6 trousers & 2 camis.... i think bulk buying will help save £, if i can avoid going to the shops for the next 9 months. chances of that - near enough nil!

I'm really impressed with GAP's maternity stuff - right now I'm wearing a cotton smock dress and leggings from there. The jeans are very comfortable too.

I've lived in GAP maternity gear because it seems to be the only readily accessible shop on our high street that sells maternity wear . It's generally good quality AND cheap for what it is; I heartily recommend!
