New Job Problem :(

So Ive been offered a new job, dream job infact. I decided to tell my agent that I am pregnant to see what her response would be.
I am about 7 weeks pregnant, she basically told me not to tell my work that I am pregnant and wait for three months, then tell them.

I am worried that I wont get SMP. My baby is due in Feb and I start my new job mid July.

Any advice? Its really stressing me out.

Congrats.
You won't get SMP but you should look into getting MA instead. You will still be entitled to the same amount of leave.
Good luck with the new job.

I tend to agree with the agent, but my recent research showed that many newly hired ladies like to tell right away even before starting a job. I myself is in the market for a new job with a baby due in February. I have couple interviews but no offers yet, wondering what would I do if I actually get an offer... I hope I do as I am desperate for work....

I was about 3 months pg with DS (my first) when I started a new job and I chose not to tell. There is no legal requirement, and let's be honest, what company is going to take on a new member of staff who is going to leave for the best part of a year in less than 9 months? Not to mention the work/life balance requests, time off for antenatal apps, time off for dependents etc....though you may be lucky...maybe they want YOU that badly.....

I became pregnant about 1 week after handing my notice in. I had a 3 month notice period and had my 12 week scan at the end of the first week in my new job. I told my employer after the scan. They were no problems with them.

You won't qualify for SMP. When you get your MAT1B form (after second scan?) your employer should complete a form stating that they will not pay you SMP. You can then use this form to apply for MA. It was very easy to do.

So I should get MA?

Maternity allowance is abut £124 a week, for 39 weeks- you can claim it from 29 weeks. You have to prove toy have worked for 26 weeks out of a 'test period of 66 week (up to the date when your baby is born.). The weeks don't have to be consecutive, but you must have earned approx £30. You can't send in your claim until you are about 26 weeks.

(think this is right-ish). Have done it recently myself, some of the details could be a bit hazy

Emplyment law in pregnancy is soooo complicated.....

Check here to find out if you are eligable. I am but I am self-employed so it's a bit different and I wouldn't like to advise you!
