Hi all, I am feeling really worried, I started to feel my baby move around from 16 weeks like flutters and like a wet fish turning round, I have been ill and doctor put me on meds since then the movements have been getting less and less and I havent felt anything since last week, has anyone got any advice on what is happening or what I should do.......

How many weeks now? I didn't feel consistent movements until about 19 weeks. They are still titchy at that stage and if there is lots of fluid the movements can be 'lost'.

I wouldn't worry - but phone your MW if you need reassurance

How many weeks are you now? Some times it is possible that you just get used to the faint feelings and stop feeling movements until you are further along.
It might be worth a trip to the doctors tomorrow though for a check up. Just to put your mind at rest.

Phone doctor's surgery first thing and tell them what you've said on here - that you were feeling your baby move quite regularly, you've been taking medication and now you aren't feeling it move as much. They should be able to fit you in for a check up or send you to hospital for a scan if they feel it is serious enough.

Chances are you're worrying over nothing but it does no harm to get checked out. I think the general rule of thumb is that you should feel 10 movements in 24 hours and you're more likely to feel the baby moving when you're lying down or sitting very still...

Octaviapink · 21/06/2010 07:05

The rule of thumb is 10 movements in an hour BUT that's not till later when you're feeling proper thumping kicks. An awful lot of people don't feel anything at all till 22 weeks - I didn't last time, and though I'm 19 weeks now I barely feel the odd flutter. I wouldn't worry, but the stress will be bad for baby, so definitely get checked out - I'm sure hearing the heartbeat will reassure you!

I spoke to my doc about movements when I last saw her (24 weeks). Basically, let them know about any CHANGE. Don't worry about how many movements you feel etc - just report changes.

I have an anterior placenta and now, at 26 weeks, often go a day where I feel nothing. The doctor said that is fine, as it has always been like this for me - if your placenta is where mine is and its your first (its my first!), you cannot always properly monitor movements until 30 weeks!

Given that there has been a change though, you may as well give them a call - you will feel 100x better once you have heard the heatbeat!

Thank u for all yr advice,
called doctor but they would not see me they told me to call the hospital I was going to have baby at and see if they would see me, called them and they said they can not see me without an appointment so told me to go a&e, went there waited only to be told they wont scan me and are not aloud to listen for heart beat unless over 20wks, in the end I did see someone who listen for heartbeat took a while but they found it they said it sounded ok and that there was nothing else they could tell me. Im now wondering if I have choosen the right hospital to have my baby at......

That's not very supportive of them! There is nothing worse than doubting your hospital choice. It might be worth having a look around a few more before you make your decision. You want to feel comfortable when the time comes to have your baby.
It's great that they heard baby's heartbeat though. They probably wouldn't do a scan since you are having one in a few weeks anyway. Hearing the heartbeat probably tells them as much as a scan would right now anyway.

I'd move hospitals if I were you! Glad they said everything was okay though, take it easy.

LittleMissSnowShine · 21/06/2010 20:44

There's a few little things you can do to try and put your own mind at rest - it's much easier to feel the baby moving when you're lying down on your side, so you could try doing this for ten minutes every few hours? Another thing that seems to get mine moving is drinking some very cold water or eating something sugary.

These aren't fool proof by any means but it's something to try to reassure you between now and the scan.

My community MW isn't the greatest, but if you've been finding the hospital unhelpful and your GP as well, might be worth phoning to speak to a midwife?
