Confused about Maternity Ward

Hi,

I am 26 weeks pregnant, my midwife is pushing me to have my baby at Solihull Hospital, the only problem is that the maternity ward there has now turned into a midwife led unit ie staffed and ran by midwives, the only women who have their babies there now are those deemed to be low risk and the birth process at Solihull will be very much like a home birth. The only other choice I have is Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham which is a complete dive. Does anyone foresee any problems in having my baby born at a 'midwife led unit'? I am somewhat concerned that there will be no doctors on hand if anything does go wrong, I know that they will not be able to give epidurals there ( not that i'm sure that I even want one) This is my first baby so I am stressing about the birth anyway!

my words of advice are to NEVER listen to anyone else's advice on what you should or shouldn't do and just go with what you feel is right.

I fell in love with the idea of a beautiful home birth with my first DC but in reality it couldn't have been more different. I was transferred to hospital when the Midwife realised it was all going wrong. I was given every drug under the sun after a very long labour only to be told on day three that there wasn't a chance in hell of a baby fitting through my pelvis. I had an emergency CS and suffered with terrible PND. The epidural was the best part of the whole experience!

Fast forward to my second baby and I had an elective c-section. Completely against my instincts but I knew it was the right decision. Totally amazing experience. I managed to bond with my baby easily and BF.

Giving birth is unique to everyone and you need to go with what you feel most comfortable with.

I had my daughter at heartlands hospital , the maternity ward was great . Was the day of my induction day said I can come it from 10am anytime so I got there around 2-3pm . Also I had been in slow labour , had my bloody show so knew I had ages yet . This was on halloween . I slept throughout that night aswell but anyway literally waited quite a bit with other woman which was annoying because the sitting chair were very uncomfortable and the waiting room was not that great but when I eventually got to the maternity ward room - they broke my waters and then of course some time after I was in pain gas and air didn’t really help much , then they gave me an epidural so felt in control with my pain then some time after that they told me that my baby was 8cm dilated and her heart was dripping so they wasted no time on bringing me to the surgery for a c section which was actually the best birth for me because I can’t stand the pain and figured vaginal birth wouldn’t have sit with me just would have hated that . Daughter was born 2nd November 2021 at 6am so Only a minor scar also , rested up then literally went home the next day
