Moses basket

Hi,

I know there is an old thread about this somewhere but I don't seem to be able to find it and am sure I can't be the only one wondering!

I love the gro-bags but have looked and they say that they are only suitable after the baby is over 8.5lb. In case I have a smaller baby what do they sleep in in the Moses basket until they are big enough for the sleeping bag?!

Thanks.

Cellular blankets or cotton sheets. You can buy pram sheets and blankets (Mothercare, John Lewis) that are the right size.

Grobag do a swaddle blanket as do others, alternatively you could swaddle with normal blankets or just use blankets in there original format

We used a sheet and/or blanket until DS started rolling over in his cot then we put him in a grobag. (I thought it would restict him - it didn't).
Newborns don't really move that much. Also, they wake a lot for feeding so I never worried about him getting tangled. It was winter mind you, and given the heat atm, I probably would let him sleep in vest and sleepsuit.

I used a swaddle me from www.kiddopotamus.co.uk
Can't recommend them enough as babies can't undo them or kick them off.

So a sheet or blanket over baby is fine? I thought this was a no no, but I guess that is when they can roll around? Can they not pull the blanket over their head....I realise that is probably a stupid question!

I will def get a swaddling blanket, but my niece hated them and my mom said my sister and I hated being swaddled too. So wondering what to do if they don't like it!

In the gro-bag do they have just a long sleeved vest underneath? I am due october. Under a blanket in the Moses basket I am presuming you use a sleepsuit. What about a swaddling blanket?! A short sleeved vest?

Can you tell I'm a first time mum?!

You can tuck sheets and blankets under the end of the mattress and put your baby in "feet to foot", so they can't wriggle down further and there's no slack for them to pull up.

What they wear is very much take it as it comes... IIRC DD wore anything between a short sleeved vest and a short sleeved vest/long sleeved baby gro combo in a GroBag - it depended on the ambient temperature in the room and how your individual baby likes to be. DD also hated being in cold air, so we tended to go for slightly lighter dressing and CH on. It feels like a minefield, but all of this does become pretty intuitive remarkably fast, honest

Sheets and blankets are only an issue if the baby wriggles under them (this is what sleeping bags make safer). When they're tiny they'll be doing less wriggling, and if you always put them "feet to foot" (you can get cot dividers to make this easier in big cots) it's fine.
