I am 39 wks with my second, and starting to get really nervous about giving birth again.
It has only just sunk in I think?
I have been constipated the past few days, and wondering - how on earth am I going to push a baby out, if I can't even do a poo !!!???

Don't worry about it, once that baby starts coming the poo will too!!!!! It's a beautiful time giving birth .

cos you won't have a choice! lol

i think it's normal actually. because you know what it's going to be like. but IME my second and third births were a LOT better than the first, for the same reason too.
i coped with them much better

Your body has slowed down your digestion to get maximum nutrients from what you eat, hence the poo issue.

Your baby will come out because your body is going to be using every muscle it can to evict it. Your uterus is the strongest muscle by weight in your body.

And, as a bonus, you might do both at the same time!

Because you can't help but push the baby out, even women in comas can give birth because your body does it for you.

Now constipation after you've given birth, that's a whole new experience.... [pain emoticon]

good luck!

Personally I think I would prefer to have a baby to a poo. Babies smell a bit bit not all the time.

noshouting · 18/06/2010 19:27

del1 get your constipation sorted out pronto, lactulose or glycerine suppositories should get you going. Am a midwife and second babies generally fly out themselves as long as they have the space, and a loaded bowel can reduce that space alot!
HTH

OOH, I shall try the lactulose! I did have sickness and diareah with my first. So hope this will be the same?
Thanks for the reasurrance ladies !!

Do second babies really generally fly out?

Anyone else fear everytime they do a poo that they might pop the baby out?

thisisyesterday · 18/06/2010 21:08

bumper my second was a lot quicker than the first. I reckon he'd have flown out if he hadn't been back to back

my third absolutely did fly out

funnysinthegarden · 18/06/2010 21:12

yep, tis true, the second is far easier than the first. DS2 was born in about 2 hours following proper contractions.

Mind you I was terrified about giving birth again, but tis not as bad as you remember

Bumperlicious · 18/06/2010 21:12

DD's labour was about 5 hours (from first contraction). MW is recommending planning for a home birth this time just in case...

Ladyem · 18/06/2010 21:59

My second flew out too!! They kept asking if I wanted to push, to which I kept saying 'no, not yet!' and then all of a sudden I needed to and 3 pushes later he was out!! He mostly did it himself! Big difference to DD who got suck and needed a ventouse to help her out.

Good luck Del1!! Get some of that Lactulose, one less thing to worry about!!

I had fast 2nd stage for all mine. First was maybe 4 or 5 contractions, 2nd 2 (and I was trying really hard not to push cos the student who was trying to get her last delivery to qualify was out of the room!), 3rd 2 (midwives outside again!) and 4th 1 and a bit contractions (due to having to get up on bed to get examined to check I was dilated - durrrr!)

so yes, they fly out the more you have ime!!

Pine nuts and linseeds also work really well to get things moving without giving you all the cramps and stuff

del1 · 19/06/2010 14:24

Nice to know some of you have had quicker 2nd births!
My first labour was 2 1/2 hrs. But my pushing stage was most of that.
Midwife told me to lie down, which I did, and it seemed to slow everthing down.
I will try staying up right this time, and beat some of your times!!
Anyway, I tried some lactose last night. Bloody hell, does that stuff work or what!
It was bigger than a baby, and wouldn't flush !! Left it in the loo for boyf to kill it, as I had to go out! ha ha!!
Since my ordeal, the baby seems to have changed position.
I went shopping this morning, and it feels like it was going to fall out, and my bump was rock hard.
Even my recent swollen ankles have dissapeared !?
maybe a good poop was what I needed?

Lol!! Glad you are feeling better after that!!

And at 2 1/2 hours for a first labour!! You'll probably just sneeze this one out!!!

Hope it all goes well for you and good luck!

Oatbran works too, just put a couple of spoonfuls in a yogurt and you can't taste it. Good luck.
