I am sure this has been done before but I'm new here so be gentle!

I'm 6+1 at the moment so far too early to tell people at work, but I feel like they will think I am being really lame about random things. Already the 'eeeww what's that funny tea you're drinking?' (re fruit teas with no caffeine) has happened which is not that hard to explain, but I just signed for delivery of a heavy box that had to be brought up to our office, and I kind of felt weird asking a passing colleague to bring it up instead of bringing it myself.

So - ideas for good excuses would be welcomed, or other ways of dealing with this until it's OK to actually tell people.

Ta in advance.

I found a vague "oh I'm on a health kick" sufficed to explain what I was drinking/eating or not drinking/eating, but only if someone asks. The more keen you are to explain yourself, and the more elaborate your explanation, the more suspicious people might get - whereas if it's a shrug and a passing thing, they'll probably think no more about it.
Unless they're very nosy, they're probably not observing you as closely as you're observing yourself. Congratulations!

Bad back?

Deliaskis · 18/06/2010 12:30

I'm sure you're right puddock, it's likely that they won't even notice, I think it's me that feels weird about it, and I felt like a stammering idiot asking this colleague to carry a box!

The eating/drinking thing is as you say easier to explain - had a few headaches so avoiding caffeine, on a health kick etc. It's the lifting things I drew a blank on. I could just say I have a bad back though, as miamix suggests. It's weird though, it's a small company and they would have expected me to come in moaning about a bad back rather than just randomly refusing to carry things.

I suspect I may be obsessing a bit over this, I need to get better at the shrug thing!

Do you go to the gym or exercise? Could always say you pulled your back there. If not, you pulled it when bending down to pick something up. Start complaining now and then they won't be too suspicious! Health kick always a good one to explain food/drink.
