Bad smells

For weeks now I've had sniffer dogs' nose... everything smells pretty rank, including I hate to say it, my flatmate.

She wears a lot of sickly sweet perfume and the other day was burning some incense which smelled like a dead body. I'm not even joking.

The thing is, she doesn't seem to be able to smell the things I do - there's a nasty chemical smell coming from our fridge for example - and she can't smell it at all, whereas I'm at the end of my tether.

I know it's the house that smells (and is making me feel ill) because I went away for the weekend and didn't have a problem there.

I've tried to explain how I have a very sensitive nose and smells make me feel sick but I can't keep doing it without offending her.

Any ideas on how I can stop my house/flatmate STINKING??

I am pg with DC3 at the moment and I can't stand the smell of my house, children or husband! I seem to remeber it wore off gradually as the pregnancy went on last time...

I have found the only thing that helps is vicks or tiger balm or wearing perfume you like to block out other smells.

You poor thing. I found I was really sensitive to smells in the first 12 weeks or so and then again just recently at about 35 weeks.

I keep cleaning (with soapy water only) and opening windows a lot. I also have to move away from anyone with perfume ect. I think you could politely ask flatmate not to burn incense and maybe only spray perfume in room?

I said to my DH last night that I felt like a superhero with my superpower being smell!

As a bonus I have found my taste buds have also sky rocketed so as long as it is good fresh food it takes amazing to me, almost orgasmic!

I am having this problem. My house smells awful, I suspect it's the cellar.
I walk round smelling my hair most of the time, and I burn a lot of candles.
Surely your flatmate would be sympathetic, if you explained.

Yep, I keep charging round the house trying to find whatever it is that smells so bad. Any food left out on the worktop seems to stink and I no longer do opening the fridge at all because of the pong therein, even though none of the food is off.

I have been lingering around the vents of the swimming pool I pass on my way to work, super yummy. If only my house smelt of swimming pools...

Thank you everyone, I got the baking soda out yesterday and gave the fridge a good going over, seems to have helped a little. Doing the bin today!

Also will invest in some Vicks for bad days, let's hope it passes soon, I was on the verge of buying a new fridge yesterday!

I remember the 'pregnancy nose'...your sense of small can become incredibly heightened.

one of my friends couldn't bear the small of the water coming out of the shower nozzle...but that is a bit extreme...you have my sympathies.

hackneyzoo, so pleased I'm not the only one who suddenly finds the smell of loved ones unpleasant!

I used to carry a hanky around with lavender oil to sniff like a little old lady. had hyperemesis so smells made me throw up, including a colleague's dirty hair in a meeting one day. It will pass though.
