Frimley Park Hospital or St Peter's

Hello,

I am booked to have my baby at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey, but have heard bad reports. I decided to go for a tour at Frimley Park and thought it looked very good. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences of these two hospitals. Any comments/thougts would be much appreciated.

Thanks

cath that's rubbish. yes I was in the home room too.
I had told them of my anxieties about drug free birth prior to labour and honestly she dismissed me with a wave " you won't be having any epidural" . I sobbed for 10 minutes (looking back, like a LOON) before I got myself together. She was so un-caring.
I was glad to the the end of her.

Interesting thread, as although I live nowhere near, I will be down in Egham when 37 weeks...so who knows what could happen! I had assumed I'd head to St Peter's if need be (I was born there a million years ago) but now I'm thinking travelling to Frimley might be a better idea - although it's a bit of a trek when in labour.

Anyone got any knowledge of the Royal Surrey?

Please Please Please don't go to St Peters!!!! I have posted on here before about it.

A girl i worked with was pg with twins and St P decided to weight before the CS, and they were sadly born stillborn, due to the delay

I was at St P,when i was 8mths i started to feel terrible,When the checked me over they told me i was fine and it was just nerves as it was my first baby. So the next day i moved over to Frimley.

Frimley asked me to come in for a check up and within 10mins they told me that I had severe pre eclampsia and that i would have to have to baby as soon as possible.

Frimley were amazing,I had EMCS and my DS was kept in SCBU for nine days. I found the staff were great and wish i had gone their sooner.

St P cocked up SO much all along my pregnancy. The got my blood type wrong, lost paperwork and treated me like an idiot. (They only became slightly more polite when i told them i worked for the NHS in another hospital)

Everyone had very different experiences and you may well have a great birth at St P. It is your choice, hope it all goes wll for you!

newtothisstuff I Dr Elkinton! He is a fantastic consultant and without a shadow of a doubt saved my life and my DS.

SucksToBeMe · 01/03/2012 14:57

I had sorry!

HaggisNeepsTatties · 01/03/2012 15:01

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. It sounds like Frimley is the better bet.
What stage do I need to decide by?

SucksToBeMe · 01/03/2012 15:18

I swapped at 8 months, i rang up the doctor and politly demanded to go to Frimley!. You should be able to chage when you want to, not sure on the politics though.
St peters was my 3rd choice behind Heatherwood (they were already winding down their unit) and Frimley but alas they sent me to St P as i lived in Ascot.
Any hospital can be good/bad. Just be alert and try not to worry!

I had the choice of Frimley and Royal Surrey, and went for Frimley without question, mainly because I know from DH how hard it can be to get to and park at RS. Only thing is, if your baby needs the NICU you'd probably be transferred to St Peter's, but this happened to friends of mine who said the NICU staff were great.

Hi all. Does any one have any update views on St Peter’s versus Frimley Park maternity unit please?

Lambly · 18/01/2018 23:32

Reading with interest! I'm booked into St Peters too (currently 29 weeks) so I'm very hopeful things have improved (only good experiences with scans, and midwifery triage so far) but I guess delivery is where it counts!

LeaderoftheAteam · 19/01/2018 06:35

I delivered and know two others who delivered in the home birth suite and St Peters and it was absolutely fabulous. Honestly all three of us couldn’t recommend enough. Currently expecting dc3 and it’s a real toss us between a homebirth (for childcare reasons) but would actually rather go back to the homebirth unit! I know one person who delivered at Firmley who had good things to say but it’s further from us which is why less people I know go there. Very old post though so may want to start a new one. Good luck

I had my first at st Peters and it was awful, I agree with the lack of midwives comment and that was 3 years ago I had mine. Thankfully relocated and not in Surrey for dc2 due in June!

Lulublu · 19/01/2018 08:20

I’ve had both my children in St. Peter’s - one in birth centre (2 years ago) and one on labour ward (just over 3 weeks ago). Both experiences were great and I felt there was plenty of support offered by midwives. The only thing we found was that there was a lot of waiting around to be discharged, as there were delays in completing paperwork due to how busy the staff were. That said, we were out on the same day with DD and that was on Christmas Day.

HJ40 · 20/01/2018 16:21

I would also be interested in any recent experiences of these two as I think things have changed a lot at St Peters since this post was started.

BellaEmberg · 21/01/2018 21:07

I had my son at St Peter's in the Abbey home birth unit and couldn't recommend it highly enough - I'm 15 weeks with my second now and am really hoping I can use it again this time.

I had a lovely midwife who even stayed an hour after her night shift ended to do my sutures so I wouldn't have to move to the main labour ward.

I'd also recommend starting a new thread Excited - facilities and staff will have changed dramatically in 8 years!

Bumchin101 · 22/01/2018 04:48

I had DS at St Peter's 4 years ago and couldn't recommended it enough. Had all my tests done there including early scans. When my waters broke they were quick at checking me over and was sent home. Went back hours later was 're assessed and taken to the Labour ward. Had 2 different midwifes in but both were amazing, once DS was born midwife allowed my partner to stay for a couple of hours and 2 friends came and saw me (was midnight by this point) was moved to the ward and was offered help until DP came back in the morning. DS would not latch on so had midwife and breast feeding nurse with me for a couple of days to help (ended up bottle feeding in the end) when I was up in the early hours midwife would come and keep me company. Only trouble I had was how long it took to discharge us both.

A friend of mine had their 2 DC there 18months ago and 6months ago and would also recommend it. My DM had my little brother there and was so much better cared for then when she had the rest of us at Wexham (mind you this was 18 years ago!)

If I could have DD at St Peter's I would but have to have her at Wexham (they also have a bad rep but have had a major rebuild on their maternity wards so we shall see) due to living too far and needing to stay as close to home due to DS and family arrangements.
