Does anyone have any top tips to ensure I don't get any stretch marks? or any what not to try's/old wife's tales to make me laugh?

I've heard it's all down to gene's but I'd like to try not to get any! If that's possible when stretching my stomach for my twins

Is cocoa butter enough, a beautician told me to use coconut oil?

this has been done on here too many times. its down to genes, i didn't get any despite being lax with application of lotions, my SIL and sister both smoothered theirselfs in every potion possible and are totally covered in them.

Ask your mum - if she got stretch marks, you probably will too.

Essentially, there's nothing you can do about stretch marks - either you'll get them or you won't, and although some people swear by bio oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter etc, I've tried all of these and got horrendous stretch marks. You can't fight genetics.

Sorry - not what you wanted to hear!

I don't think it is down to genes,my mum didn't get any with me or my brother and i didn't get any with dd1 but i did with dd2,i think it's just down to how big you get to be honest, this time i'm using cocoa butter and haven't got any more and you can't really see my old ones, good luck

Only things that will work: don't be female, don't have the genes that you have, don't put any weight on, don't get pregnant, don't have the hormone surges associated with puberty or pregnancy.
Sorry - nothing doing I'm afraid. It sucks!!

My mum didn't get any, and I have her skin tone and didn't get any either. My sister has slightly fairer skin and got loads.

I think if your body is used to doing lots of exercise, that can help too. The skin has the 'memory' of stretching IYSWIM? My old belly dancing teacher (& a couple of her regular pupils) had no marks at all. Swimming/yoga are supposed to be good too.

My miracle avoidance technique is to keep my fingers crossed!

tobago04 "i think it's just down to how big you get to be honest"

It's only partly that, I've seen enormous bellies (with twins, accidentally) with not one stretchmark.
Mostly it's down to hormones and age(younger people have a higher chance of getting them).

Their appearance is common enough in places which haven't changed size during pregnancy, like your thighs, unfortunately it's just hormonal.

It's hereditary in a sense that you might produce a similar amount of hormones to your mother during pregnancy, and that will affect the production of collagen in a similar way.

I don't think it is down to genes, my Mum didn't get one with either me or my sister. (She was pregnant at 28 and 32 if age affects it) She didn't use any creams, only put on 2 stone with each of us and didn't pile on weight fast and was a size 10 before hand.

I'm 38+4, aged 23, usually a size 10ish, and have used Bio-Oil, Dr Organics Vitamin E Oil and Cocoa Butter regularly, have put on 2.5 stone now but didn't gain anything until 20 weeks (not through sickness or trying, and didn't overeat after 20 weeks but seem to have just popped!) so had quite a rapid change rather than gradual weight gain and I now have an interesting collection smattered over my stomach!

My mum has very very oily skin, and I have always had normal to dry skin... not sure if that has affected it.

Thought the stretchmarks would bother me, they haven't. I'm still using the lotions to help them fade afterwards, and because my tummy feels nice and soft!

To avoid them on your boobs, a really supportive bra will help by simply preventing the skin from stretching so much. But other than that, it's down to how your genes affect the collagen in your skin more than anything.

I'm using cocoa butter liberally, because even if it doesn't stop them, they'll be less itchy and in the meantime my skin looks and feels better anyway.
