Fit to Fly Form

Hi!
I'm going to be flying when 28 weeks pregnant and the airline says I need a fit to fly form signed by the GP or Midwife.
Both GP and Midwife say their professional bodies advise them not to write these letters so they're refusing to write them!!!!
Has anyone else had problems getting a letter and any suggestions how I could get one e.g. private midwife or something?
Thanks

I am meant to be going to Spain Sept 24 to 27th I will be 33 weeks when I fly out and turn 34 weeks on the return date, just hope I can go as it was a gift from friends for DP and I before I fell.

I guess I will have to try and get my dr to give me the letter the day before or the morning of the flight if we dont fly out to early as its all a surprise, all I know is the dates and its in Granada

what airline Rinn?

Rinnyx · 22/07/2010 20:17

From what DP said he was told it was a Spanish airline that flys to Granada, after looking around online the only one I came across was one called iberia, they say you can fly up to 36 weeks.

Going to see if the friends will not tell us the airline if they can check for me then, just hope I can go as been looking forward to this even when I was told I was almost 2 weeks further than first thought

I went to France at 30 weeks, called my GP who chuckled at the airline's requirement ("It's an hour's flight, there is no way you will deliver your first baby in this time!") and wrote a letter. It cost £20.

Ryanair never asked for it, but I am glad I had it done as I also sent a copy to my insurance company who cover international travel but requested such a letter when I phoned them to ask what to do if I need medical assistance whilst on holiday.

I just got a note from my midwife, no problems, but now a bit worried because I'm not due to fly for another 3 weeks, will its still be valid?

Mine is just a photocopied letter, with the blanks (name, dates , signiture) filled in by hand, easy to fake

notjustalawyer - yep, all that and a nice comfy pillow, better than those small ones the airlines give you. mind you, during my first pregnancy, the lovely airline steward took pity on me when i whinged about my back hurting within minutes of the 13hour flight - he let me sit in business class for a solid 8 hours and i slept in bliss!

i can't emphasise how important it is to keep walking regularly around the cabin though - with my 2nd pregnancy, my back really hurt to sit but there was a lot of turbulence so didnt get a chance to walk around much.

I've just flown back from France on Easyjet at 27 weeks so technically didn't need any form of note. No body at the airport or on the aircraft at any point in time even asked me how many weeks I was and I think I'm sporting a pretty big bump (at least that's what all the random strangers who seem to think they have a right to comment say to me). No-one batted an eyelid at all. I took my notes with me so that I could prove how many weeks I was if necessary but they really didn't seem to care that I was preggers at all.

oh c**p. im just about to book my airtix lon-berlin for a 8day holiday. i'll be 29-30weeks then.
i was going to get my GP to write me a fit to fly letter (that costs £25!!) but if they want a letter issued 5days before each leg there's no way im going to be able to see a German doctor to get one!

tiredfeet · 30/07/2010 19:59

my gp did this without any fuss, and without even asking to see me. He just checked my details on his computer, checked with me over the phone that I wasn't having any problems, then wrote a note saying I was 28 weeks pregnant and had no complications. It cost me £10. The airline didn't ask to see it however!

ARGH! my GP says they take ONE WEEK to write this letter! i went to them 48h before the flt and i got scolded for not going to them 1 week earlier!

how difficult is it to write TWO lines and sign off?

Im also in Reading as mentioned above and the GPs etc don’t do them here as it’s a new policy. I was told of a travel clinic who do it here so I’m going to try with them. Hopefully I’ll be ok as the holiday is all paid for. I’m now worried by what I’ve read but have had zero pregnancy complications this time only complications with one medical condition that is now being treated and I’m getting better.
