Docs appointment before 12wk scan- what to expect?

I've got a docs appointment this week off the back of a dating scan I had today (i'm confirmed as 7+1wks), and I was just wondering what I should expect? The doctor said at my first appointment to confirm pg that I should come back after the scan, so i'm guessing this next appointment tomorrow is to organise 1st Midwife appointment? Am I right? (She didn't actually say, and I didn't ask!)

Is there anything else I should know, or need to think about? I'm wondering if I need to decide now if we'd like to do any abnormalities tests at 12 weeks? Where I'd like to have the baby? Just want to be prepared, so any advice/what happened to you at your first appointment info very much appreciated!

It's hard to say - normally a midwife does your official booking in appointment and I can't see why you'd need to see the GP again just to get referred to the MW.

At the booking in appointment, you will need to know what you want to do about the tests (although you can say will decide later if necessary on Amnio/CVS) and where you want to give birth. You'll also need to know all your family medical history details. My booking in appointment wasn't good and we got no chance to ask questions so I was very glad I'd done a lot of research beforehand so knew what we wanted.

At my GP appointment we talked through loads of stuff but then this is my second and I had health issues when pregnant before. I think first time round it was basically an opportuity to ask any questions and to set the referal process to the midwife going. I got asked stuff like how was DH with the pregnancy, was it planned etc etc

I met with my GP at 8 weeks after having an early scan at 7+5. It was pretty basic: blood pressure, urine test screening for infection, quick listen to my heart for murmurs, and that was it. She did however refer me to the midwife (who will take a LOT longer esp with your first) and made the referrals for my dating/nuchal scan at 12 weeks. You don't have to make major decisions but (depending on your GP) if you want the nuchal screen for Down's then they may well book that at the time; you would however have time to change your mind later as you can have it up to 13+6. Other screening decisions/where to deliver/blood tests etc can be discussed with the midwife in a few weeks (usually around 10 weeks). Hope this helps!
