So, I just did a pregnancy test and it came up positive!

I'm a little shocked, because I honestly didn't think it would be positive. We had planned to start trying in a couple of months but have been less than careful lately, so a bit of a surprise but a couple months early is no big deal.

The thing is, I'm just surprised it is this month, not a couple of months back. I've had my period twice since then but its just a surprise. A couple of months back, we barely used contraception. This past month, it was just once, just over a week after my period started. My period isn't due for another couple of days, the only reason I did a test was because I fainted yesterday and it was the only logical thing I could think of.

I'm sure this all sounds silly, but what do you think the chances are I'm actually 2 months pregnant. Do doctors test for how far along you are? I feel like an idiot saying it annonymously on here, I don't think I'd pluck up the courage to ask the doctor.

Congratulations on the positive test. Very exciting time.

When you go to the doctors they will not even test you, just refer you to the midwife services. So they probably will not be able to help with how far along you are.

I think there is only really one way to reliably find out how far along you are and that is to have an early scan. Hopefully someone else will be able to give you more information on this, as I'm not sure of the process. (i'm currently waiting for my 12 week scan next week)

The other way to 'try' and find out is to use one of the clear blue tests which tell you how far along you are. If you decide to give this ago be aware that I have read alot of comments on here about their lack of reliability so I would not necessarily take it as correct, but could always be a starting point.

I suggest making a doctors apt and getting in the system and letting them know your unsure about dates, either they or the midwife team they refer you to should be able to help

Congrats.

I wouldn't feel at all stupid about explaining the situation to the GP. They are used to it. Lots of people have irregular cycles or implantation bleeds that they thought were periods or other reasons why they are unsure about dates.

I would have thought (I don't know as have no experience though) that if you are very unsure about dates you would be able to ask for an early scan.

First of all, congratulations!!! You can buy a Clearblue HPT that tells you roughly how pregnant you are. As far as I know, a doctor won't test to tell you how far along you are, they don't really do much to be honest apart from tell you to make an appt with the midwife!
