Feeling guilty!

I am 8 weeks and have been suffering from massive tiredness and really struggling with work. I have told our occupational health nurse but no-one else at work knows yet as I was waiting for the 12th week. I was in a meeting yesterday for 3 and a half hours and I was nearly asleep a few times, also popping out for the loo twice. So today I rang in sick, I am feeling guilty for not going in, given my boss doesn't know yet he probably thinks I am just skiving. How does everyone else deal with this time before making it official, I am running out of excuses!

its hard, I think I just slaved on. Funnily enough second time pregnancy , when you have a toddler too you HAVE to keep going, first time I did take a few sickies

try to get through the day then go straight to bed when you finish! the fatigue does fade at circa 12 weeks

Be aware that if you haven't told your boss, they can count the sick leave against you. The anti-discimination stuff kicks in when you tell them. If you're really struggling, could you tell your boss and ask them to keep it to themselves for now?

I ended up telling my boss at about 8 weeks because I came down with a couple of colds one after the other and had to take sick days - I didn't want them to think I was being useless so in the end I told her.

She didn't tell anyone else and I waited until after my scan at 11 weeks to tell the rest of the office.

Hi ng1412,
I agree with just letting your boss know in confidence. I told my boss at 8 weeks too as I needed snack breaks. Plus it made it alot easier when i got a migraine as I could explain was worse than usual as couldn't take usual painkillers.
Good luck.

Kiki84 If it helps I told my boss last week and he was very understanding (of course he knows he has to be!). I couldn't keep ringing in sick without giving a decent reason as my sickness record before this was non existent! Maybe you should do what I have done, if they are upset they can't do anything about it anyway....or if they do you have protection and they would be very foolish to do anything....hope you get it sorted out!

I'm starting to wonder about this myself. I'm about 10 weeks, and so far the cramp pains, sickness and lack of energy is just getting increasingly worse. I don't want to try to get time off work at such short notice, but as of today I'm starting to wonder whether it's helping anyone to keep trying to go in.

Ryuk just interested to know whether you have done anything about work? I have been signed off, my boss knows but the rest of my work colleagues don't know. I am sure they will guess pretty soon as I am newly married and haven't been quiet about wanting to start a family asap (I am 40) - but so be it, I needed to rest and I am better at home than being stressed out at work. Hope you have sorted things!
