Prams for flats and stairs

We live in a maisonette. The doorway to our flat is quite narrow and once you're in the door, you are quickly faced with stairs.

We've been given a pram by a sister but it's really big.

Any thoughts on prams that would be be fit for purpose? I realise we'll have to part with some cash, sigh, but I'd rather get the right sort of pram and save me a lot of hassle.

Thanks very much

well, none are particularly easy to get up- and down stairs.
I tend to keep mine in the car

Bugaboo Bee, iCandy Cherry and Maclaren spring to mind. Some Maclarens come with a carrycot now which is fab. A friend got one on Mothercare website a couple of years ago and you'll just end up with a Maclaren anyway - everyone does!

If you are able to leave it at the bottom of the stairs then the M and P pliko pramette is a small pram. it will also stand up on it's own when folded which is more handy than you expect. Ours has done 2 dc and has washed up nicely ready for dc3.It is also a very good pushchair for toddlers as it has a nice flat seat and lets them sit up and look around. We never got a maclaren.

Really would recommend getting a sling/baby carrier too (generally small babies seem to prefer those to buggies - or at least in my experience DS1 and DS2 did) and Maclaren/something lightweight and easy to fold as a buggy.

Had an icandy cherry and loved it. Kept the base bit by the front door (hubby put hooks on the wall) as it folds very flat. When DS was little carried him up and down in the carrycot, and then when older left the whole lot folded on the hooks.

try ebay/gumtree for a used one in good nick to save some cash. They come up for sale all the time (just sold mine as now need a double buggy).

You just need one with a separate carrycot which you can carry up the stairs and then either run down to collapse base or leave it standing in the hallway.

Then when they outgrow the carrycot an umbrella fold.

But yes, a decent sling is an excellent idea

Mclaren xt (from birth) did just fine in our flat and we have one flight up to the front door and two to get inside the flat. Bit of a pain sometimes, but if she was sleeping I would leave DD at the bottom of the stairs with the door open. She let me know when she was awake...! She didn't mind the bumps anyway.

Sometimes leave it downstairs too, or else in the boot of the car.

With my 1st DC I had an old Chicco Ct01 pram where you can separate carry cot and carry with you on handles, wheels can remain downstairs, very convenient. Will use the same for my 2nd.

mamaloco · 15/06/2010 09:05

2dn the Chicco, I have the enjoy fun. quite cheap and the wheels can stand on their own upright. really light for a 3/1 travel system.

I have a jane matrix - we leave the base in the car (or you could leave at bottom of stairs its small umbrella folding) and bring the car/seat carry cot in.

Expensive but maybe you can get 2nd hand on ebay?
