OMG. Another miracle?

OMG.

Last July, age 43, I gave birth to a son, who was something of a miracle. In the previous few years I'd have four miscarriages (three of them after 10 weeks) and a failed adoption attempt. After that, and 18 months of TTC, we were about to embark on IVF but the period I was waiting for to start the treatment never arrived, as I was pregnant with DS. I had an easy pregnancy, apart from SPD, and he was born via emergency CS.

I'd love another, but realise at my age and with my history, it's unlikely in the extreme. My periods returned in March, when I stopped breastfeeding, and we've just been 'seeing what happens' and not using contraception.

So, what's my point?

Well, I thought AF was arriving a few days ago, with cramps and backache. But she's still not here. And I feel rather strange, as if I'm coming down with something. And this morning my sense of smell is like a bloodhound's. OMG....

(I've posted this on 'conception', too. Forgive me, I'm all of a doodah)

Good luck, herbaceaus!

I am saying this whilst nursing 3 month old DS on my 44 year old arms...

SirBoobAlot · 11/06/2010 09:12

Good luck, herbaceous! Am really hoping this morning brings you some excellent news.

(Pacific, come back and say hi at some point, we miss you!!)

Enormarse · 11/06/2010 09:18

OOOh herbaceous, have you tested yet? I don't know you but I love a little miracle Good Luck.

Headbanger · 11/06/2010 09:22

Oh for heaven's sake! Has she tested yet?? I've got work to do!

smokeybacon · 11/06/2010 09:24

herby I remember you from the knicker checkers thread last year.(I used to be ladyhelen) Congrats on your DS (rather belated I know).

Have you tested yet?????? Am crossing everything for good news.

MmeLindt · 11/06/2010 09:25

Good luck, Herbaceous. XX fingers for you.

herbaceous · 11/06/2010 09:44

Ooh ladies! Sorry to have kept you all waiting.

Further symptoms happened last night - other people's food made me feel sick, and more cramps.

Hardly slept all night, waiting to test, and worrying that maybe I didn't want another one, it would be letting DS down, where would new baby sleep, how could I love another one as much as DS, etc etc

Then I did the test (not very strong wee), left it for 15 minutes, and....

... negative.

But no AF either.

WTF?

Now of course I'm thinking, well my period isn't late yet, it was a crappy Boots own test, yadda yadda...

smokeybacon · 11/06/2010 09:50

When was/is AF due?

Enormarse · 11/06/2010 09:53

yy Herbaceous, I'd be thinking exactly the same. I think you need to wait and test again (with first wee of the day) in the next couple of days - if it was me I'd do it tomorrow because I have NO patience!
Don't worry about your ds, someone told me - the love you have for your dh and dc surrounds you like a bubble, when you have another child they just step inside the bubble with you and the bubble gets a bit bigger. And if that doesn't make you nauseous you're def not pg

herbaceous · 11/06/2010 09:53

Well, it's been a bit erratic - anything from 26 to 30 days, and I'm now on day 30.

vmcd28 · 11/06/2010 10:00

I got negative tests for days even tho I had symptoms. IN FACT I got a neg with first pee, but got faint pos two hrs later!!

StealthPolarBear · 11/06/2010 10:04

maybe it;s too early to test?

herbaceous · 11/06/2010 10:07

I don't want to get my hopes up, and spoil my hol by bawling in the bathroom when AF arrives, so it's hard to know where to put my mind, IYKWIM.

Enormarse - far from making me gag, it made me bit tearful! But then just about everything does these days. I cried at a children's book the other day.

LauraKB · 11/06/2010 10:21

Gosh Enormarse, that made me tearful too, what a lovely way to think of it.

Herbaceous, I hope you get the result you want. I had negative tests (with Boots own brand tests too incidently) with symptoms at what was probably 2 weeks, and then very quick positive results with First response and clearblue at about 5 weeks.

Good Luck.

tablefor3 · 11/06/2010 10:27

Herby - just adding my good luck!

There does seem to be at least anecdotal evidence that getting pregnant once can assist natural conception for subsequent pregnancies.

One of my baby friends had DC1 via IUI having been told that natural conception was pretty much impossible. DC2 was conceived entirely naturally and accidentally about 10 months later and was born last month. Friend is v late 30s.

Not to mention the lady another friend met who had DC1 by IVF and naturally conceived DC2 2 months later . 2 DCs in 12 months!

Anyway, if nothing else, have a lovely weekend in Suffolk.

herbaceous · 11/06/2010 10:37

Ooh I'm feeling all tearful again about how lovely you all are.

I'm going to feel a right tit when I have to come back here and tell you Aunt Flo's arrived in her rusty red car.

Not even sure we've got internet access on hol, so the story may not be concluded here for some time!

Maybe I've just got a bug. I have got a right chesty cough. That could explain the achey hips.

Anyway, I'm just going to enjoy the holiday. DS is being uber-cute - waving, clapping, copying words, and rolling around the floor at high speed (not crawling yet though!). We've bought a back carrier so we can take him on walks.

The negative result also means I can indulge in plenty of boozy pub lunches!

Wheelybug · 11/06/2010 12:27

Herby - sorry you're on a roller coaster ride. Fingers crossed it was just too early.

DD is great thanks - actually she's a bit of a pickle and keeps me very much on my toes but gorgeous. And, I too had worries about loving another as much as dd1 and you really do.

Enjoy your hols whatever the outcome !

babybunting2010 · 11/06/2010 14:03

I wouldn't trust a boots own, especially so close to AF due date. I would personally say to invest in the digital ones as it picks up the slightest Hcg level or whatever it's called, it showed as positive for me at only 3weeks and 6 days pregnant (3 days before AF due) some of the ones where they have to make extra lines showed negative until over 5 weeks when a faint line started to appear!

Only a suggestion!

Good luck and fingers crossed

herbaceous · 11/06/2010 14:06

LORD.

The boots one was slow to react, even in the control window. I wonder if will up its game if AF still hasn't arrived in a week?

I am sure eventually it will react but the line can be so very very faint until the hormone levels increase.

15 minutes sounds awfully long to leave a pregnancy test, most say don't read after 10minutes. According to the website you should be able to read the result after 2 minutes. You might have left it too long!

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 11/06/2010 14:36

Reminds me of when we were trying for a baby and my period was due the day or so before dh was taking me away for a night. I packed tampax and a pregnancy test. I didn't need the tampax.

herbaceous · 11/06/2010 14:38

I got up at 5.30, as I couldn't sleep, weed on it, then put it back in the packet to read later! Didn't want to wait for it to develop as DP would have asked me what I was doing.

When I looked at it again at 7.30 the control line was dark red, but the test line was not there!

I do feel slightly 'buzzy' in the head, which I did when pg before.

Perhaps I should invest in a First Response!
