Do people just go nuts? or did you find you just got loads of clothes etc?

Mainly clothes. A few fluffy toy type things and a couple of other blankets/comforters. My favourite present was for me [selfish emoticon]. A big hamper of cheese and pate and a bottle of fizz

Chelle1986 · 10/06/2010 14:37

Mostly clothes.

Lots of bunches of flowers with Ds1 but strangely not one with DS2

oopsandbabycoconut · 10/06/2010 14:40

We have been given loads of newborn babygrows, vests and little cardies, a few teddies and my favourite thing was a choccie hamper!

Cies · 10/06/2010 14:47

Clothes in various sizes.
Flowers and chocs.
Cuddly toys, rattles, a mobile.
a clothes hanger

I got loads of stuff for DD1. Loads of clothes, toys, books, blankets and lots of people also got us toiletries and bits and pieces like that. In fact we were given so many packets of baby wipes I only bought my first packet when she was 15 months old!

MumNWLondon · 10/06/2010 15:11

all clothes all 3-6 months. was same with DS1 who was also born in spring, so have been changing clothes for bigger sizes as have too much 3-6 stuff!

FakePlasticTrees · 10/06/2010 15:26

lots of clothes, (mainly 0-3 months) and teddies, not really any toys DS could actually play with.

We also got a couple of bunches of flowers, and some random snow globe.

Jacksmybaby · 10/06/2010 15:31

Lots of clothes - people often buy bigger sizes (e.g. 3-6/6-9 mths) thinking they are being cunning as everyone else will buy you newborn stuff BUT this means a) you don't get bought much newborn stuff as everyone has the same idea and b) the 3-6/6-9 month stuff is then for completely the wrong season by the time your baby actually grows into it.

Lots of cuddly toys which babies and toddlers aren't remotely interested in!

Blankets. Millions of blankets!

God I sound like an ungrateful cow!!

lamplighter · 10/06/2010 15:32

I don't know if I am weird or not then - I always buy babygrows for newborns and a bottle of very expensive port with a letter from me and photos of them as a newbie put in the box.

This is to be kept until they are 18 and they can either have a toast for their birthday or sell it. I get advice from the wine merchant about which port to buy and how much it should increase in value over the years.

My eldest godson sold his at auction for £600 and put it towards his first car.

With DS, I mostly got 0-3 clothes, a couple of packs of nappies, some horribly cheap nappy sacks (the nappies smelt better than the bags! ), toys, and my mum and her friend put together a lovely set of baby toiletries along with a potty, all decorated with flowers and wrapped in cellophane like a bouquet

Chelle1986 · 10/06/2010 15:41

lamplighter - thats really unique - what a lovely thought.x

I got a tumble dryer.

KnitterNotTwitter · 10/06/2010 15:50

Clothes - all sorts of sizes and a mixture of stuff I loved and stuff I subtly took back to the shop and exchanged.

Flowers - lots of them :-)

Bears and other soft toys. DS is now almost 2 and only recently taken to playing with them

Some bath products for me which never got used :-(

A lunchbox.... will be good in a few more years time...!

Blankets - very good present IMO

Baby sheepskin rug that I never used - didn't want it to get vomited on although other people swear by them!

Age inappropriate mobile - for kids over 3yo - again will be useful in a few years time!

Actually it's a really good idea to check the ages suggestions on lots of the things you're given. Some bears aren't suitable for babies as the fur is loose and if they take to sucking the bear they can end up with fur in their stomach - eugh.

lamplighter · 10/06/2010 16:14

Thanks Chelle - One set of parent's drank it themselves and had to 'fess up years later

TheNextMrsDepp · 10/06/2010 16:17

Loads for DC1.

Less for DC2.

Virtually nothing for DC3 ("oh, did you have another one?")

EldonAve · 10/06/2010 16:19

clothes
soft toys
sleeping bags
flowers
baby crockery

lamplighter · 10/06/2010 16:25

I also get their birth chart done from The Astrology Shop as a bit of fun.

I always get far more excited about babies being born than anyone else

KnitterNotTwitter · 10/06/2010 16:42

Should have also said that FIL made me a board to go over the bath to use as a change table. I hate the idea of changing nappies in a bedroom - is just weird to me.
