Hi all,

With DS my morning sickness started at 6 weeks and ended around 6 months. I threw up constantly and was admitted into hospital a few times. It was awful and completely put me off having a second one. But here I am again 3 years later, nearly 6 weeks pregnant, and been feeling sick the last few days and rather sick all today... and it feels like it's just the beginning!

I was hoping that second time round would mean not so much morning sickness. Can anyone who has had more than one before please let me know how yours went? Hoping to hear good news such as "was only sick till 6 weeks with second one".

Hmm, sorry not what you want to hear but my MS (HG) has been pretty much the same (i.e. v bad and lasting all the way through) both times - so far!

Not the case for everyone though.

Fingers crossed for you!

Every pregnancy is different. I had very little morning sickness with my first pregnancy. 2nd time round I couldn't eat, was sick all day every day and lost weight, cried a lot and was exhausted.

Did you get any help last time? If you do have severe ms/hg there is help out there.

Got up at least 3 times last night(that I can remember) to puke. It's awful. At least with DS1 I was never sick after 8pm so got my sleep at least.

What help can you get? Well, I got help as in I had to go into A&E a few times. GP tried to give me anti-sickness tablets when I was nearly 3 months but too late then I was throwing up all the tablets within the minute. Injections were too severe for my very weak body and once again admitted into hospital. I remember crying a lot too and being rather depressed. Strangely DS turned out to be a happy baby and now a happy toddler.

OH I really remember this all too well I went to a homeopathic pharmacy, they asked me a few questions and gave me pills called nux vom. Totally made me get through the day that bit better, but I found it was much worse when I was tired (which was pretty much every single day in the beginning). Bleugh it's like having a constant hangover. HTH

One thing I didn't try in my previous pregnancy was homeophathic medicine. Perhaps I might give that a shot this time round.

Another advise that was given to me was acupuncture but DH and I were quite against that as it seemed 'dangerous' to us, to both mother and baby. Perhaps we're wrong.

I've been taking vitamins long before first pregnancy as my parents have always made me take vitamins since childhood. So I've always taken multivitamins etc. and now pregnancy vitamins. Didn't seem to help me that much unfortunately.

baby 1 - pretty sick
baby 2 - not quite so sick (probably because I rested more and took meds from early on)
baby 3 - much sicker (probably because I had massive stress at work and didn't rest enough).

Ps. I wonder how many people are going to give me the advise of taking 'ginger biscuits' and 'bananas' this time round!

Still remember just coming out of hospital, spoke to a friend (who has children) who said, "have you tried taking some crackers? that eased my morning sickness" I nearly fell over laughing but was so weak just sort of fell down on seat (and couldn't manage a laugh). I know everyone just means well.

First pregnancy was sick every day for seven months(from around five weeks, with a few weeks' gap in the middle), fainting, felt ill, like gastroenteritis really, for all of those months.

Was very nervous about getting back on that rollercoaster! However, this time (25 weeks now) I was sick for about 6 weeks, 6ish-13ish and have felt really quite fine since then! It's just a totally different experience if you are lucky enough not to have all-through sickness, and so I hope this time it's easier for you

cupofcoffee · 11/06/2010 10:39

with dc1 was sick a lot from 6 weeks to 17weeks.
dc2 more sick than first and for longer.
dc3 only very mild, slight nausea and threw up only a few times.

It seems it is one of those things you cannot predict.

Sounds like it just varies and depends on luck of the draw. Thank you for your wishes and I hope so too. I really do feel for everyone with morning sickness and hyperemesis.

I always hear that girls are worse than boys, considering I had a boy with my first with HG, I dread to think what the sickness would be like if it's a girl this time.

Felt much less sick this time - still nauseous and hungry, but not really any retching or gagging on toothbrush, no food aversions, so it was def different and not so bad. Stopped sooner too.

ooosabeauta · 11/06/2010 20:14

FWIW anon, my first (when I was really sick) was a boy, and this time I'm not and it's meant to be a girl! I'd read that the boy's hormones can make the sickness worse, whereas the girl is a bit more in harmony with your system. There's a different theory for all these things!
