I think I've found a cure for morning sickness!

With my 1st pregnancy I had awful MS for 16 weeks and vomited like clockwork every morning.

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and for the last few mornings I have felt sick but have yet to vomit, however I read somewhere a 'cure' for MS and have been trying it out for myself this week.

Eat a high protein breakfast.

I have had eggs in one form or another along with some toast and it really works. I really can't face a breakfast at the moment but have forced myself to make one and as soon as I have finished it, the sickness dissapears!

Everyone tells me to eat a dry biscuit/cracker/something plain but maybe it's not carbs we should be eating. Maybe it's protein?

Try it and see! Granted I'm only 6 weeks and it could get a whole lot worse but at least I'm getting some relief for now. If it helps anyone else then great!

Oh and don't forget, scrummy poached eggs from YOUR kitchen will be a very different scenario to a runny egg yolk left under a wedding marquee on a hot sunny day.

Wedding buffet is actually the most dangerous food known to pregnant women and yet it's rarely mentioned!

Thanks skihorse - I'm just bitter cos I can't have lovely lion marked runny yolks (back in the UK for August though so will be overdosing on them then!). Been googling and unfortunately looks like quite a high salmonella risk here, so I'll wait until 1st trimester is over at least.

Re: morning sickness aids, I've found that fizzy drinks have kept mine at bay this week. (Def not cereal for me, works for about an hour and then makes it a lot worse for rest of the day).

what worked for me was a couple of rice cakes before getting out of bed in the morning, and travel bands + peppermints + slightly flat diet coke throughout the day. i was still sick in the sink about 60% of the time when brushing my teeth though!

It's really foul isn't it, I'm so glad that so many of you have been on here to share your misery though, it makes me feel less alone, although not any less sick. I havn't been able to stomach the eggs for the past few mornings and MS has been horrible. Getting out and about and trying hard not to focus on how I am are feeling sometimes helps too, but I appreciate it's not always possible. Roll on 2nd trimester.

breastmilk - sorry to ruin your day... but I puked in my car when driving yesterday and mine could be born any day now.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 13/06/2010 20:31

Sorry you've still got MS skihorse I'm lucky in that mine tends to disappear around 16 weeks though. Not eating regularly would make me feel nauseous last time around in later pregnancy.

Yesterday mashed potato saved my life. Today...a warm croissant with cheese and ham. No actual cravings, just a continual racking of the brains to think of something that does make me ill at the thought of them.

Penguin, your NZ farm eggs are probably more healthy than the vacincated but hormone-filled supermarket ones we have.

richteabiscuit · 14/06/2010 11:17

Ditto MacMomo, it's a daily challenge as things that seemed to help for me one day make me heave the next. Anyone else running round supermarkets, desperately trying to get the shopping done with a hand over their mouth as the unexpected scents assail them?! I tried the poached eggs, and felt better for half an hour. Still, that was half an hour more than usual. It's SO hard to be excited about the pregnancy when you just want to puke or sleep.
