Clexane Tips Please?!!!

I have just found out I am pregnant for the 10th time, 7 mc's and 2 ds's. I have in the last 3 pregnancies (one DS, 2 mc's) taken fragmin, which I got used to pretty quickly as it was a smally teeny tiny needle.

Now my consultant wants me to try clexine. I have just done my first one following the instructions on the leaflet and my belly now hurts?

Any tips? Should it hurt so much? just around the site of where the injection went in is hurt, like an achy type pain.

And more importantly. Did it work for you?

I am on clexane twice daily, not due to miscarriage, but due to bilateral pulmonary embolisms in my pregnancy. I have also been told I will need a 'preventative' dose in any subsequent pregnancies. I've been on the clexane for about two months now.

I do the injections in either my stomach or my thigh. It was fine whilst I was pregnant, but I have noticed a small amount of bruising and a lump at the injection site since I gave birth. I find the injection doesn't hurt that much though, especially if I pinch the skin quite hard when I am injecting and press the 'plunger' slowly. It hurts more when the nurses do it at the hospital, so usually I ask to do it myself there.

I am just about to start taking clexane again for my third pregnancy, I had a pulmonary embolism in my first so have to take a low dose in each pregnancy.
I found that it was easier to do the injection in my leg than my side, especially as the pregnancy progresses. I have lots of little brown injection sites on my side even though it's over ten years since I first used it but no marks whatsoever on my thighs.
It does sting when you first do it and it's important not to rub the area, like midori says it's best to pinch a good chunk of skin and administer it slowly, make sure the needle is going straight down as well not angled.
Hope all goes well for you this time.

I used it for the first 10 days of my pregnancy with DD and my resounding memory is that it hurt like hell! I was used to giving myself injections, after 2 cycles of IUI, but I found that Clexane stung loads when it was going in, and left the area quite sore. It was very frustrating as everybdy tells you not to rub the area as it will easily bruise. Mine was in pre-filled syringes, and I had to be really careful taking the lid off, as the slightest contact with the needle would blunt it which always makes it more painful.

I was taken off it after 10 days as we were told from early scans that DD was too small for dates and not viable. She starts Reception in September and is the tallest in her class I did however continue to take low dose aspirin until I was 36 weeks - I have Factor V Leiden, so high miscarriage risk on top of struggling to conceive in the first place.

Hi julezboo, congratulations on your pregnancy. I injected Clexane last pregnancy with success (Protein S deficiency). I am now 11 weeks pregnant and am using Fragmin. They are v v similar drugs and I haven't noticed any difference in bruising/pain at injection site. Most days it doesn't hurt to inject, but occasionally it stings. I grab a roll of belly (plenty to grab ) and inject slowly. Everything crossed for a good pregnancy for you

Thanks all,

Tatty, I have factor V leiden too. Although no problems conceiving it seems.

Snowwombat, good to know there isnt much different, I think it was the size of the sirynge that freaked me out, I found the fragmin to be tiny needles but the clexane comes with a big protective cover, plunger and a spring!
