Hi I'm new to this forum and in my first pregnancy only 3 months pregnant but concerned about Macclesfield hospital. Does any one have any good or bad experiences giving birth at Mac?
I am booked in with them for Maternity care but before my wedding they seriously messed up a bladder infection that by misdiagnosing (even though the signs were for a severe kidney infection- fever, bachache) I ended up being taken into another hospital and being put on a drip 2 days before my wedding due to their negligence. Since then a friend of mine had a broken arm and they treated him so badly giving him food so he couldn't have his operation etc so eventually discharged himself and got treated at another hospital. I appreciate these are different wards to the maternity but I am really concerned about the birth and care at this hospital so any information would be gratefully recieved.

I am currently overdue with my 2nd & will be giving birth at Macc. Last time (4 yrs ago) had to be induced, dd born with pneumonia, needed special care for a few days & we both stayed in a week after. I am perfectly happy to go back again. There were little hiccups like dd's monitoring notes being forgotten to be written up, me getting forgotten about mealwise as was in a single room but me & dp kept on top of those things. Midwifes during labour were fab, was one stroppy one afterwards but to be honest I've found you encounter small probs like these pretty much everywhere. I had a choice of Macc or North Staffs & defintely wanted to go to Macc. Have heard some bad things about North Staffs but then others have said to me the opposite. I've been in North Staffs for other reasons & found Macc much friendlier, nicer atmosphere then North Staffs.

Thanks for your feedback I'm just nervous after a bad experience but the different wards may be better. I was offered Macc, Wythenshaw or Crewe but my friend is going to Warrington which is the same distance to me as Mac. My husband is so worried after the Kidney incident if we stay with Macc he will be on top of it!
Goodluck with your birth hope it all goes well

I was talking to a friend of mine today who had her first baby at Liverpool Women's and had no real complaints. Her second was born at Macclesfield and she couldn't praise them highly enough, from labour to delivery to ward aftercare. She also said they were very accomodating to her dh and dc1, very flexible with visiting and even gave them a meal!

I had a really positive experience at Macclesfield. The midwives were all lovely, i had a private room and use of the birthing pool and pretty much 1-2-1 care all through my active labour. I'm having my second baby there soon

seomum - I gave birth to my daughter 10 days ago at Macc & just thought I would update you on my experience. I had a quick labour, having contractions/backache that had increased in intensity but become further apart. Rang labour ward they said to come in if I wanted if I was getting too uncomfortable. Arrived & was needing to push so straight into a delivery room, 2 mw's both lovely, although one was good cop one bad but to be honest that was what I needed as I'd just been told there wasn't any time for pain relief so was in a bit of a panic! Less than half an hour later my daughter was born. Meconium was in my waters so a doctor was alerted so he was present for the birth but everything was ok. We were left in the delivery room for about 3 hours after, both me & dp given tea & toast & time to bond with dd.
I have anti e antibodies so my dd needed cord bloods taken to see if she was affected. Turns out she was so we stayed in 3 days & werelooked after excellently. The doctors were brilliant, dd1 was in special care & then on the ward having regular bloods & obs taken & we had to keep chasing up those being done & the results. This time didn't have to chase up anything & were kept informed of the blood levels all the way through. Two ladies in with me were having trouble bfeeding & they had loads of help & time spent with them which I thought was great. All in all although I was pleased to bring my dd2 home I was a bit sad to leave as it was so comfortable & friendly on the ward & I was getting looked after really well!
On fri we had to go back to childrens ward for more bloods to be done & both doctors who dealt with us were doing the rounds there. Both popped in to see us & asked how we were getting on.
All in all a very positive experience, just thought I'd share it with you.
good luck

Thank you for sharing your experience has definately put my mind at ease. Having a chat with the midwife about it all at the next appointment.
Congratulations on your DD
