Just sent the form off for my HiP. (Seemed wise, since I'd bet they'll be axed in the budget in a couple of weeks...)
Just wondering how long they're taking to come through at the moment - has anyone received theirs recently?

About 10 days for mine, paid in at the beginning of this month.

bleedingheart · 08/06/2010 15:07

10 days here too, received yesterday

TaurielTest · 08/06/2010 15:23

Thanks, that's better than I'd expected

anyone know if they will be axed? I really want one but am only 5 weeks at the mo! my chances are slim aren't they...

TaurielTest · 08/06/2010 16:28

We won't know until 22 June. IMO they'd be an easy cut and quite likely to go, as they're a newish benefit which people seem to disapprove of, or at least hold in lower regard than e.g. child benefit - but obv can't be sure. Also, if they are cut, it might not be with immediate effect.
If I were you I wouldn't spend it yet though .

Don't think I know what these are. But IMO if they are axed I doubt it will be immediate but it's hard to tell. I have read they want to change child benefit somehow, but it won't become clear until budget.

gingertoo · 08/06/2010 16:32

It seems likely that it will go doesn't it, but I wonder whether they will phase it out rather than dropping it with immediate effect to allow those who are currently in early pregnancy to receive it?

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 08/06/2010 16:55

I expect it will go and probably be dropped quite quickly. The Child Trust Fund has been dropped quite quickly (drops from 250 to 50 quid from August, axed completely next January) and the HiP grant is a similar type of benefit that would be easy to get rid of.

DomesticG0ddess · 08/06/2010 17:47

I expect it will go, although they might means test it, which imo it should be. But these things don't tend to be immediate - will probably take a few months to drop it/change it.

Ooh good point Puddock.

How do I go about doing this?

My midwife said "Oh don't worry, we do that for you" but I wouldn't trust them to do anything right or on time judging by my previous experience of their chaotic systems!

Where do I get the form from, and do you have to be a certain number of weeks preg before you can do it?
Thanks

DomesticG0ddess · 08/06/2010 19:25

I think you can get it from the Direct Gov website (it def tells you all about it anyway), and you have to be 25 weeks, and you have to claim for it a certain amount of time after the doc/mw has signed your form.

EnglandAllenPoe · 08/06/2010 19:26

they turned mine around in 1 week - win!

ronx · 08/06/2010 19:29

Blimey - I'd better get my form in!

My GP filled out his section and now I have a bit to complete.

BigMommaOfAlmost4 · 09/06/2010 18:16

I got mine two days after posting - no kidding (and I am pretty sure the postage was 2nd). I could not believe it when I saw it in the bank account!!
