Because it's not that straightforward.

LMP 14th May
Ov day 25th May (CD12)(usually CD19, so very odd)
Normal luteal phase 10days

So, was kind of expecting very short cycle when I ovulated a week early, I thought that AF might turn up on CD 22, rather than CD29.

So I used the NHS EDD calc and adjusted my cycle length as being 22 days rather than 29, because going by ov day and lp that is correct. That gives me an EDD of 12th February and makes me 4 weeks pg. I also suspect that I can't be less than that as I got a very faint pos on Sunday afternoon at 12dpo with a 20 miu test.

But if I put in my normal cycle length; ie, 29 days, it says I am 3 weeks pg and due on the 19th Feb. I don't think I'd get a 1-2 weeks pregnant reading with a CB digi if this was right.

This is quite important as I will not be having a scan (very personal decision which I won't be going in to here) so need to get it spot on. I've been induced twice and will do anything to avoid that. But I am NOT prepared to lie about dates either to avoid induction.

And help most gratefully received.

I think that the little wheel that the MW uses to calculate a due date assumes a 'normal' cycle of 28 days even though many of us are not on a 28 day cycle. So if you put these details into the mumsnet due date calculator (as I've just tried) it says you conceived on 28th May. I imagine this is quite possible if you ov on 25th May. So your due date would be 19th Feb.

I know it is rare to get a positive reading so early, but a lot of tests can be done 10 days after ov. I have had faint positives within 10 days of ovulation.

Hope this helps. If not I'm sure someone else will try and help soon.

But that means getting a pos test at 9dpo with afternoon wee!

Hi Little Silver,

if you do not want scans you may want to rely and the intelligence of your body too.
Go with the later date, giving your baby more time to come when its ready.

Wishing you a lovely pregnancy,

Anja

How confident are you that you have correctly pinpointed your ovulation day? If you are sure about when you ov'd, then use that to date your pregnancy as it will be more accurate than LMP (which assumes we all ov on day 14). So if you ov'd on May 25th you are, as you say, exactly 4 weeks pregnant today at 14DPO. It is not possible to conceive 3 days after you ov'd, as the egg only lives about 12 hours. Personally I had trouble working out my exact ov day so preferred to go by scan dates, but if you know when you ov'd I'd use that.

Congrats on your pregnancy.

this website www.tryingtoconceive.com/eddc.htm
says your due date is 15ty February, using your ovulation date to calculate this.

I got a positive at 12 days past ovulation too. In fact, I got a faint positive at 10 days past ovulation. You got yours at 12 days past, which is not unusual.

IGNORE when your last period was, and calculate everything from your ovulation date (if you're sure of that), and add 2 weeks.

If you're very confident at when you ovulated, go with that. But fwiw, your usual LP length doesn't impact it much (and the calculators assume a "standard" LP of 14 days). So your EDD should be 38 weeks from when you ovulated (or a day later as fertilisation doesn't necesarily take place right away). I make that an EDD of 15 Feb 2011.
