Anyone else on Heparin or Aspirin?

Hi there, i found out last week i am pregnant. I have previously had 4 miscarriages which led to me being diagnosed as having Factor V. I am now on daily injections of Fragmin and taking aspirin. Is anyone else having heparin? I suppose im looking for positive and similar stories. It feels so strange to be medicating myself whilst pregnant although i know it is the best chance the baby has. Im sure i will get used to it and it will become second nature. Its just all very daunting at the moment...

Hi samoy congrats on the pregnancy.

I have heterozygous factor V leiden too so you aren't alone , and now take warfarin daily (due to 2 DVTs not baby related).

When I was pregnant with my DC I had to have the daily injections so I know what you are going through with having to self medicate and how much of a pain in the bum it can be, literally lol. As you say it does become second nature with the injecting, monitoring etc. Both of those forms of injectibles are completely safe for the baby.

The only thing I would like to comment on is you might want to query (if you haven't already) with your practitioners about the aspirin as this is on the list of drugs that is 'non-mixable' with thinners (although am sure this has been taken into account if is for a pre-condition).

congrats again

Hi Samoy

I was dx'd with factor V after 9 first trimester mcs .. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant and have taken 150mg aspirin daily since conception and have taken Cexane by injection since week 6 .. I hope the injections work for you - they seem to be working for me - I havent got this far in a pregnancy since I had my daughter so I am feeling positive.. Happy to chat if you want ...

Thank you both for your replies-both very encouraging! Congrats Duritzfan on your pregnancy, i hope everything continues successfully for you. Have you been having blood tests to monitor you since the cexane? I have nt seen anybody yet but am off to RMC next week, not too sure what sort of ante natal checks they will do?

Hi Samoy

I have also just found out I am pregnant. I am on Clexane and Aspirin. However, with DS2 I had fragmin from week 4 right through till after the birth and he was born full term.

We can hold hands together!

Julezboo · 09/06/2010 21:04

Sorry should probably say I have had 7 miscarraiges.

mumatron · 10/06/2010 07:54

im on it too.

4mc's, taking 150mg aspirin since before conception and daily heparin jabs since 7 weeks.

it's not nice, but you do get used to it really quickly.

good luck!

Duritzfan · 10/06/2010 18:31

Hi again ..

no Ive had no monitoring re the Clexane ...

Huge best wishes to all you other pregnant Clexane ladies - here's hoping we all have happy outcomes this time ..

sue10 · 11/06/2010 16:08

Imon it too, started it as soon as i got a bfp then had to stop the aspirin. I know other girls who take the aspirin and heparin all the way through their pregnancies, all clinics differ on this. I am now just under 8 weeks pregnant, after many mc's i have never got this far before without the baby's heartbeat stopping. I feel quite poorly this time, haven't had these feelings before which hopefully is a good sign. Im also on other immune drugs this time, intralipids infusions, steroids and i had lit.

Best of luck ladies and congratulations
XXX.

Hi again all, is anyone else getting terrible bruises from injecting? Im currently injecting in my tummy area and it looks horrendous already- maybe its my technique? Anyway thank you and congrats to all who replied- its nice to know im not alone.

No its not your technique .. the drug causes you to bruise much more easily - I have had some shocking bruises !
I also have a bruise currently on my toe where my sandal rubbed it !

I was told to stay away from injecting into bruises, where possible, and Ive also found that holding the injection in place and counting to ten after its done and then drawing out the needle and gently applying pressure with a fingertip over the injection site has made me bruise less...

Might be worth a try ?

Julezboo · 14/06/2010 21:46

Samoy, are you rubbing it afterwards? That tends to cause the bruises. Although to be honest, the last two days the injection has hurt going in and I have bruised there.

mumatron · 14/06/2010 22:01

i have had awful bruises on my tummy too. i was so embarressed when i went for my scan

i tend to bruise very easy anyway though.

samoy · 16/06/2010 20:42

Hi all i showed the nurse at RMC my bruises today and she said they were quite normal but recommended i use a warm flannel over the area to help disperse the bruising. Worth a go i think, just thought i d share that..
