disappearing twin?

At my early scan to check all in the right place, two sacs were seen (at the time nothing in either). The doctor said it could be twins or could turn out to be a disappearing one! I was just curious if others have had this. Apparently lots of us never get to know about it unless you have an early scan. My friend had severe bleeding and cramping at 10 weeks which they reckon was a miscarriage of twin, the other one is now a gorgeous girl of 8 months. I know there's nothing to be done until the follow up scan next friday but trying to keep my excitement in check at the thought of having twins (that would make 4 so have no idea why I am excited anyway , wondering if I can cope with 3, let alone 4!). Has anyone had a disappearing one?

Nope but i had a scan at 6 weeks and there was 2 sacs. Was told the same thing, that next time there could be just 1. Im now 28 weeks preg with twins. Its very tiring and scary but now i cant wait to meet them both

I had this, 2 sacs seen at an early scan, but only 1 baby at my 12 week scan. Id never had known if i hadnt had a scan at 6 weeks. I had no bleeding or pain, and dont think of it as a lost child.

I had twins confirmed at 6 weeks, 9 weeks they were both dancing around on the screen but by 11 weeks the was only 1 hb, who became my beautiful DD.

The other twin was reabsorbed completely.

It was upsetting as we had got used to the idea of twins and had been reassured by our fertiliity doc 'there will be no vanishing twin here, there are both big and healthy' but accepted that it just was not meant to be.

I read about this in a very old midwifery book - its sad for the parents isnt it,at the time this book was written there were no scans and the mums didnt even know they were expecting 'twins'.

Starshaker - how wonderful for you having twins

maduggar - that's exactly how I think I will feel if I go back next week and there's only 1.

Cyd4 - that's what I'm worried about. I don't mind going back next week and there being only one, but once you see the heartbeat you assume it's going to be okay and then one disappearing would be quite a shock.

Nickschick - a friend of mine's husband is convinced he was one of a twin that disappeared. I'm not sure how he knows this as, as you said, there weren't really scans about at the time. I think he using it as en excuse because his legs are slightly short for his body and he reckons they aren't his!!!

I'm not sure what I'm crossing my fingers for! Either way, I hope at least one turns out to be viable and healthy. Will let you know
