Nesting like a possessed thing at the moment - and this morning I even removed the glass shades from the living room ceiling lights and put them through the dishwasher.........

Please tell me that you've gone as far as me with your nesting, I've already scrubbed everything in the kitchen this weekend and have a huge list of stuff to do through the rest of the house .

Even the poor cat has started doing a runner every time I walk into a room incase I start washing him!!

Disinfecting inside the biscuit jar....

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/06/2010 14:58

I scrubbed the grouting between the tiles in the bathroom with a toothbrush and bleach.

My eldest sister came round about a week before I was due and tidied and cleaned from top to bottom, took her all day She even sorts out cupboards etc! So alot of my nesting was done for me!!
She is going to do it for my other sister nearer to when she is due. I told her she should make her own cleaning company with "nesting cleaning" as a speciality!

when I was 39 weeks with my first I moaned (and actually cried) until my husband agreed to paint our bedroom bright purple (I had imagined it being more lilacy).I was supposed to be resting because of high blood pressure so I had him painting the walls while I sat on a dining chair in the middle of the room with my feet in a bowl of water to try and bring the swelling down a bit.Bless him he did it. The crib we have still has little purple marks underneath it where it got a little splashed!

It was changed back when my daughter was around 4 months old.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 09/06/2010 19:50

fernie I've got dh to paint the upstairs hallway wedgewood blue. I already hate it

Really want new carpet on the stairs and some nice blinds for the front room, I'm thinking wood venetians...got to wait til June payday and unfortunately baby is due 28 June

I am 38 weeks, and have spent the last week scrubbing the floor everyday, scrubbing the fridge and kitchen everyday.

My parents in law came for tea last night, and washed up.
This wasn't good enough, so after they had gone home, I got the dishes back out and washed them again.

It is driving me insaine!

I promisd I wouldn't be so cleaning / nesting crazy this time, but I can't help myself!

I've just come back inside from scrubbing the patio door frames and windows, outside.
Why ? Who cares if they are clean?

I am getting really stressed about things not being left in their 'place', and constantly following everyone around moving stuff!?

Oh, and smells - everything has a funny smell this week.
Arhh, someone save me from this madness !!

storminabuttercup · 10/06/2010 11:27

I have a crazy thing with bleach and i am currently pouring a 2ltr bottle of bleach down the kitchen sink - literally just pouring it down - becuase im convinced the drain smells.....

Elsa123 · 10/06/2010 12:48

Oh please don't do that Storm- you'll be causing alarms and all sorts to go off at the sewerage plant and you could cause a hazardous spill investigation and the clean up costs thousands- 2 ltrs is loads!

How about getting some sinkfresh instead?

potplant · 10/06/2010 12:57

Ordered £300 food shop from Tesco.

I put it all away then trundled off to my appointment with MW. She was concerned about my BP, sent me off for a scan and they suspected pre-eclampsia (sp?) so kept me in for two weeks till I had DTs. 3 weeks later I came home and binned all the lovely food.

It is my top tip for any overdue mothers!

storminabuttercup · 10/06/2010 12:59

REALLY??

OMG!!

It is the cheap thin stuff - but i will hold off for a while...i am literally throwing money down the drain.......

FloweryBoots · 10/06/2010 13:06

I have completely tidied out our shed. now really, what is the abby going to be doign in the shed?!

I have also put down snail pellets. I hate the idea of this and despite the fact our garden is overrun with snails I usually resist all suggestions of killing them because I feel so bad. This week though I put down snail pellets on the grounds that I didn't want as yet un born baby to pick up snails from the garden when it arrives, or for me to decide once the baby's here snail pellets are required and be worried about teh abby picking them up. Now again, I would say relaly I know the baby would do neither of these things immediately and this is more of a risk next year. The todler visiting us for the weekend this weekend however probably will pick up remaining snail pellets, and all the gongey dead snals I've not been able to bend over to remove before they arrive, which is really more of an issue!

Elsa123 · 10/06/2010 13:07

LOL Storm! but yes, really, fat down the drain is another eco balance killer. I totally sympathise and kind of hope I get something similar, as my house does need a thorough scrub! I cannot even put a drop of bleach down my sink as I don't have mains sewerage and it goes into a mini treatment plant that discharges clean water into a ditch by my house. xx

mrspear · 10/06/2010 13:08

I had DS early and so had nothing ready before he was born then he was born and i was scared to do / buy anything in case it all went wrong. BTB the neonatal nurse told me on the Monday he should come home on the Wednesday and we would stay on Tuesday to see if we can cope. That night me and hubby scrubbed every room top to bottom i.e brush for cobwebs and clean light fittings, clean furniture and floors. We also had to get the crib from my mums who made us order the week before. On the Tuesday before i got to the hospital i had to iron all the new sheets (gift from my mum) and do a last minute shop for everything else!

Now well my standards have dropped yet DS is still well

JamieJay · 10/06/2010 13:52

I love some of things people have got up to - it is a compulsion isn't it!

Nesting has lost a little of its appeal these last few days as I keep finding things I want to do to the house that cost money and we've none spare as we've got to save to cover my maternity leave

Will undoubtedly find more things to scrub though

so far - hoovered the lounge and cleaned the kitchen floor (which is white. never again)

planning to do- new (white) BATHROOM (Bye-BYE avocado),

de-mushroom and de-aeroglypta our bedroom (yech) - paint nice shade of light gold. remove the broken built-in wardrobe that has been broken now since last time i gave birth..remove live wire from wall.

of couse, DH is going to be doing most of the difficult bits, but my nesting will serve as motivation.

bruffin · 10/06/2010 14:19

I did my nesting on the computer!

I worked from home for the last two weeks before my maternity leave when DD was born. My last working day was when I was 37 weeks and spend all day obsessively reconciling the ledgers, clearing it off , packed everything up walked down the post office and posted all my papers back to work at 4pm. Went into labour at 6 and DD was born that night at 10.40

del1 · 11/06/2010 15:16

I've just spent 3 hours, cooking food for my sisters party, and enjoyd doing it.
Even though my back is killing me again now.
But decided to cook some muffins for us.
So spent another half hour making these.
But managed to drop them half way through cooking, all over my oven.
So I now have to clean the oven again.
Cried, but then had to laugh at how daft I was for crying!!

popAwheelie · 14/06/2010 06:43

Last week I repainted the lounge and then colour coded the bookshelves.

still 6 weeks to go. Kill me now.
