Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and what they did to help relieve it..? I'm 20 weeks PG and my boobs have gotten so big (36GG), they're so heavy I have constant pressure on my chest and find it difficult to breathe... obviously I'm breathing (!!!) but it doesn't feel like I'm getting a proper lungful, if that makes sense. I'm constantly out of breath just sitting down and my heart is thumping. My midwife isn't that helpful so I don't want to call her up about it (next appointment not until 26 weeks), she already thinks I'm a hypercondriac (sp?)after I freaked out about ligament stretching cramps . I mean, glamour models have bigger boobs than mine (through choice!), do they all stagger about wheezing and clutching at their chests???

I'd go to Bravissimo to get your bra checked. I was having real issues in a badly fitting bra and my new bras have helped so much, even they're (ironically) tighter round the chest! I'm 36FF now btw.

Also, you might have developed myofascial trigger points (muscle knots) because of the strain of the extra weight. A specialist myofascial release massage therapist can help release the tension.

I went to A&E recently cos I couldn't breathe properly, thought it was asthma related and yes I have the boob thing going on to (28weeks).

I described it at the counter and ended with "It feels like there's just not enough room in there".

The very nice consultant said that that is exactly the case. He said they don't x-ray pregnant women often but if you did see such an x-ray it shows your diaphragm pushed right up squashing your lungs up also making it v hard to breathe.

Unfortunately there was nothing suggested for helping the situation.

Personally I feel that the baby is having growth spurts and some days are harder than others.

And don't wear anything tight around your belly, jeans, belt etc or too tight a bra.

Good luck, I feel your discomfort.

I've been to Bravissimo, hence the bowling ball sized bra I'm currently wearing!

I'm 19 weeks and I am the same size as you.
I hate my new boobs.
I couldn't breath properly but I realised that it was because my clothes were too tight and there literally wasn't enough room to inhale fully.
Unfortunately I am only wearing t shirts at the moment. A few times I have looked around the shops but its all just too depressing. Maternity tops seem to have big tunny areas, which i don't need, but not enough boob room.
I haven't looked into the plus size section yet.

Also, it is normal to feel breathless during pregnancy - more blood in our system & stomach pushing up on the diaphragm, making it harder to inhale. I don't think you should be feeling this when you are sitting down, though.

If it's not clothes or your bra, then it's probably the pressure on your diaphragm as Jamiki said, rather than your boobs.

It's more likely that it's your baby pushing your diaphram up IMO - can you try pushing your belly out - sounds silly I know.... Also can you breathe more easily if you kneel on all 4's? Not practicaly for all day but might be useful....

estya re tops I got some Isabella Oliver ones on ebay that have gathers on the sides so don't look huge when you're not that big... but then they grow with you as you get bumpier...

Oh God, so I'll be huffing and puffing for the next 20 weeks then? Joys of motherhood...

Might be worth checking your iron levels, I assumed my breathlessness was normal pregnancy lung squashing, but turned out it was actually anaemia.

Teddyisonhisway · 07/06/2010 13:24

Really? I'm slightly anaemic (10hb). Might have to take it up with dozy midwife after all
