Hi all,

Heard that only 1% of women give birth on their due date.. i was 13 days late with DD1 so not very hopeful about DD2 being on time!

Are you 1 of that small %age? Did you 'know' when it was going to happen? Any twinge and ive got my fingers crossed!

DD was on her due date and DS a day after. Didn't have an inkling with either but they were both very considerate and labour didn't start until the morning after a good night sleep

pud1 · 07/06/2010 13:36

both my dd's also born on there due dates.

looking back i would have loved an additional few days with dd1. now i have 2 under 2 i would do anything for a few days to myself

MrsGravy · 07/06/2010 13:39

I'm due today too!! My first child was born 4 days late, my second just a day late.

I was hoping, following that pattern, that I'd have this one even earlier but no such luck!

I'm having lots of very strong braxton hicks and lots of pressure in my girl bits but nothing else to indicate she's about to come out.

Good luck to you though, I hope you don't have to wait too long.

shipsladyg · 07/06/2010 18:18

Tisn't it something like 30% on or before EDD, 40% in the week following due date and most of the rest in 41-42 week and a small number 42+. Not that this is serving to cheer me up at 40+1 if you go by scan or 39+3 if you go by LMP.

catbus · 07/06/2010 18:35

Apparently it is 4%. My last 2 DCs born on due dates; now pg with DC4 so place your bets..

harley85 · 07/06/2010 18:45

Me too mrsgravy , had quite strong BH last night and the last few days, Fingers crossed u wont be too long ethier

My DS was born 15 days late by emergency C-Section. That was after being induced over a period of two days, having my waters broken artificially and then 12 hours of full blown labour with a drip to make me contract.

So no he was not on due date and no where near to it... I'm praying if I have a second baby I have a more straight forward birth experience.

It's not enough to put me off the idea of doing it all again!

Good luck and best wishes x

VengefulKitty · 07/06/2010 19:14

Good luck due ladies!

Dates put DS as due on 21st by GP
Scan said 20th
He was born on the 19th!

I wasn't expecting it. I had a 'when it happens it happens' attitude, but part of me expected him to be late as so many people said DC1s usually are.

I also thought it was BH for the first 3hrs

funnysinthegarden · 07/06/2010 23:07

I don't think mine would have been born at all had they not been induced. I had no inkling that either of them wanted to come out, and truly wonder what would have actually happened if they had been left to their own devices.

I really envy mothers who went into spontaneous labour at around their due date. I would love to know what that felt like

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 09/06/2010 07:09

Morning all - any of you ladies had your babies yet?

I'm still waiting! Due friday...

cinnamongreyhound · 09/06/2010 08:58

My first was born 14 days late and I was induced at 41+5. Am hoping this one will be at least a day late as he's due 31st August and I don't really want him to be the youngest in his class when he goes to school!

I was 15 days late and my younger brother 2 days so not as bad! My stepson was born on his due date.

The worst part of being overdue is EVERYONE asking have you had it yet! NO... If I had you would have heard!!!!

harley85 · 09/06/2010 10:38

not yet.. was due monday, feel sick and dizzy and had diarrhoea thismorning, had loads of BH so hoping shes on her way!

yes so many texts and phone calls!!

I was due yesterday and midwife has said baby is back to back so need to get it to turn

Any advice in doing this, (apart from going on all fours) would be greatly welcomed!

harley85 · 09/06/2010 11:21

try a birthing ball and sitting on a dining chair turned around , u lean forward resting your arms on the back support of the chair (hope that makes sence)

all 4's with bottom up is the best way tho (apparently)

hope baby turns

Hi dolphina78,
I'm in the same boat. The advice I've been given (besides the all fours stuff) is to keep the hips above the knees when sitting, as this tilts the pelvis in the correct direction. You can either do this by straddling a dining chair or by sitting on a gym ball.

I was told to avoid lying down unless it's on your side (left is recommended for some reason!), and definitely don't slouch down on a settee on your back with your feet up.

Good luck!

marchbunny · 09/06/2010 11:32

First 2 were born on their due dates and number 3 was 4 minutes before his due date

I pushed hard to get him out on 07/07/07

dolphina78 · 11/06/2010 10:49

Hi skippingturtle,
Thank you, will try those too, only thing is, I get swollen feet if I don't elevate them so catch 22 at the moment!!

skippingturtle · 11/06/2010 11:22

I'm exactly the same! Asked midwife how to keep feet up whilst at the same time keeping knees below hips and she kind of shrugged...

Any input from lurking contortionists very welcome!

MrsDmamee · 11/06/2010 11:37

DS1 arrived on his due date..went into labour the day before so it was a long 26 hour event.

DS2 was 5 days over and the wait was horrible.

dc3 is due in 18 days and ive no idea if he/she will be early, late, on time or way way overdue

i just wish i knew as this pg has been the worst out of all 3.
MS for 17 weeks(1st time ever having MS). bleeding for a month and nearly constant BH since 14 weeks and they are really beginning to hurt now. And oh the pain and pressure in past few days has been unbelieveable.

anyone have a crystal ball there

doodlexyz · 11/06/2010 12:53

DD1 was induced at 12 days over, and I didn't have even a twinge before that!! Think she was more than happy being in there
DS1 came at just 1 day over, which was a complete shock! Made a speedy entrance too.
DD2 I was convinced was going to come early, but followed the same pattern as her sister and was induced at 14 days over.

Currently 36 weeks with DD3, so if she follows in her sisters footsteps, she won't be in any hurry.. lol! ALthough due to other problems, she may well be forced out on her due date!

EmmaTulip · 11/06/2010 14:04

I am now 9 days overdue and still waiting. I've been told by every medical practitioner I've seen that only 5% of babies arrive on their due date.

The issue appears to be that our current society and and our available technology has made us date obsessed, and no-one will ever get it right in the vast majority of cases. Due dates are even calculated differently from country to country. If we were in France, we would be given an extra 7 days. So if I were French, I would now only be 2 days overdue.

The only conclusion that I can draw from available statistics and comments such as all those above, is that birth dates are totally impossible to accurately predict. They can be no more than an educated guess.

But that doesn't make it any less frustrating for those of us in the waiting game! Am due to be induced on Monday.

sonsmum · 11/06/2010 15:40

DC1 born on due date (labour started the day before).
Midwife told me DC2 would be born up to 5 days earlier than due date since it was DC2. However DC2 was 2 days late!
