How long did you bleed for after birth??

I'm only 8 days postnatal and already fed up of what seems like the mother of all periods! Midwife visited today and thought it would be fun to tell me some women bleed for up to 6 weeks . How long did you bleed for? Please tell me you'd packed away your industrial sized pads after a fortnight

I think I must be weird from the looks of the posts, I was done in less than 2 weeks. I think by 10 days it was over and done with, with both of my DCs. I was surprised at the time tbh how quick it all was. BF both at this stage fully. Both fairly large babies and full term.

Hope it isn't too much longer for you OP and not 6 weeks

Couple weeks for me, second week was pretty light. Suspect people with 'memorable' lochia more likely to to post.

Best wishes OP!

Does delivery make a difference? Cs verses VB.

I had VB and bled for about 7wks. Hated every moment of it. I am normally on the pill and get away with light flow tampons for 3-4 days a month. Post birth bleeding was a big shocker for me

6 weeks for me also

I agree with booyhoo. Even though I didn't like bleeding for sooo long. You do have other things on your mind, like a new born baby to keep your mind off it, and to make the time go quickly!!

About 5 wks for me, really bad for first 2wks and then lighter

DanJARMouse · 05/06/2010 17:39

DD1 - 3 weeks max

DD2 - 3-4 weeks

DS - 5-6 weeks

Couldnt have a 4th child, it would probably be 8 weeks or something daft!

Switch to Always Night pads if you are not getting on with maternity pads. I hated them from the first day with DD1 so switched and never bought another packet!

I've just finished a three-day course of antibiotics and the bleeding has all but dried up from being unpleasantly heavy before, plus my bulging stomach has gone down significantly and I've lost three pounds - it does look like I had an infection and that might not be the case for everyone but worth bearing in mind??

6 weeks for me, although it was only about 2 weeks of heavy bleeding, and then I could switch to normal sanitary towels and then just panty liners.

biscuitsandbandages · 08/06/2010 11:58

6 weeks both times

MumNWLondon · 08/06/2010 12:04

Around day 2 was like a normal period and by day 8-10 I was just using panty-liners. It got lighter gradually.
