Need rational advice - should I call the midwife in the morning.

I'm 31+2 weeks and have my next ante-natal appointment on Monday.

At booking in my blood pressure was 110/65, since 25 weeks it's been high 120s over low 80s, midwife's been a little concerned about the amount of increase but no protein in urine so generally said take it easy and monitor throuhg routine appointments.

Last week was really stressful and since the weekend I've felt crappy - headachey, hot, breathless, faint, exhausted, maybe the tiniest bit of swelling in hands (if I look for it ).

My mum had pre-eclampsia and I am slightly overweight so it's in the back of my mind but equally I've never been this pregnant before so it could all just be normal symptoms!

I'm not going into work tomorrow (boss it being a plank and not helping reduce my stress levels) but don't know whether to call the midwife or wait until my appointment on Monday.

I've lost the ability to think rationally so don't know if I'm over-thinking and don't want to waste midwife time when other people have real symptoms!

Thanks

Sounds like normal pregnancy to me hun (31+6 myself and feeling like poo)

maduggar · 02/06/2010 21:28

Those are more hot weather/pregnancy symptoms rather than PE ( I had PE with my 3rd baby)

What did your MW say about the raise in your BP? Are they keeping an eye on it?

Mimi1977 · 02/06/2010 21:29

If you are in any doubt go see the midwife. You have a right to be concerned with your history and whilst you do get lots of those symptoms generally with pregnancy it could also be pre-eclampsia. I don't think it's worth taking a risk - you would never forgive yourself if anything happened. Don't want to scare you or worry you but I really think you should get it checked out.
That's what the midwives are there for and I'm sure they've had calls/visits over more minor stuff than yours but it's all relative to you and you shouldn't be worried. Please call midwife asap.

franke · 02/06/2010 21:31

Yes, please call the midwife. You need someone who knows to rule out the worst case.

3littlefrogs · 02/06/2010 21:31

As an ex midwife I would say call the midwife. Personally, I would always rather see someone and find all was ok, than miss something important.

Most of your symptoms sound stress related, but the headache sounds a bit worrying. Do you have any visual problems, like spots before your eyes, or blurring?

If you develope anything like that, or pain like severe indigestion, you need to see a doctor tonight.

Hope you manage to rest and feel better.

hi, if you're worried at all i would call your midwife. i called the hospital on a saturday afternoon as i couldn't feel ds move. they told me to come down and they would check it out. all was fine but they said rather i come down and they check it out than me sat at home worrying! give them a call and see what they say.

japhrimel · 02/06/2010 21:50

I'd call the midwife too. They may say it's nothing to worry about, but they may want to check you asap and better safe than sorry. I know I have my midwife's mobile number and have called her with questions or worries already and she's been great.

JamieJay · 02/06/2010 21:58

Thanks all......

duejuly2010 this stage is bloody crappy isn't it

maduggar my blood pressure had never read high enough to be considered high, she just raised a concern about the degree of increase and said to check it at routine appointments. She did say to call them if I got any other symptoms though.

3littlefrogs no visual symptoms, have had constant indidestion pain / bump ache for the last week so couldn't say if that was anything different or just a rapidly growing baby.

I'll give midwife unit a ring in the morning, explain my concerns and see if they want to see me. Have been in once with reduced movements so know they'd rather see you just in case but can't help but worry about being neurotic

I would ring the midwife.

However they are normal pregnancy, especially in hot weather symptoms when you are still working and your boss is an idiot. Could also be related to iron?

I think it is normal for blood pressure to start rising in third trimester again - is usually lower at booking and in second.

JamieJay · 03/06/2010 08:47

Had my iron levels checked and they came back as 11.4Hb which they said they are happy with. Think it is all normal symptoms but have found pregnancy pretty easy until now just a bit surprised how quickly it's all got tough

Having second thoughts about wasting their time but still going to phone even if they just tell me to go away and rest!

well how did you get on last night? have you called yet?

addictedisalmosthalfway · 03/06/2010 09:11

if in doubt ring the midwife. they will just have a chat on the phone either tell yo uto come in with a sample and do your blood pressure again, check the baby over or say ring us back if you develop xyz symptoms.

but if in doubt always ring the midwife

JamieJay · 03/06/2010 09:25

Have rung this morning, they've said that they're not overly worried and think it is probably just pregnancy symptoms.

But they have asked me to pop to the assessment unit in an hour to be checked - more because her kicks aren't as foreful as they've previously been then because of blood pressure.

Think I need to get use to feeling crappy though as feel totally hung over this morning and like I haven't slept for a month despite having a pretty good sleep last night.

Thanks for all the replies

This is my first pregnancy so I don't really have any experience to go on - but my reaction would be that if you are worried, call the midwife. It's always worth checking something out if your not feeling right. and I don't think you would be wasting any time - isn't that what midwifes are there for?

Hope everything goes ok and you feel better soon x
