Pregnancy pillow, anyone use one that actually works?

Am so uncomfortable at night, I'm getting pains down both legs if I lay on my side, laying on my back is ok, until I get up and I realise my back is killing me. I have carpal tunnel in my wrists so am wearing splints at night, I haven't had a full nights sleep since I got pg for one reason or another.

I have a pillow between my legs and a rolled up pillow case under my bump (am only 24 weeks, anything bigger makes me feel a bit sick). I also had a neck problem a few months ago and since becoming pg I have spent a small fortune on 2 new pillows and a down mattress topper, with although are very comfy don't actually help much. I am taking co-codamol and have taken sleeping tablets, rescue remedy night, various night balms, none of which help.

Has anyone tried a pregnancy pillow that actually works? I know they cost a fortune but I don't care if it gives me a good nights sleep. I've seen those dream genii ones, or long bolster pillow, anyone actually got one that makes them sleep better?

buy a cheap single duvet and roll it up. Then just wrap yourself round it. Its great

I had a wedge www.amazon.co.uk/Carla-Sleep-Sound-Support-Wedge/dp/B002V1HABI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby&qid=1275510 252&sr=8-1 and it was amazing. I borrowed it and intend to buy one this time round. I tried the pillows between the legs and a V shaped cushion but it was just a nightmare. The wedge is really small but so supportive. You probably find if your bump is supported your back will ease. Then maybe pillow between your legs?

The dream genii pillow is fab.....I used one very early on my pregnancy and I've only just stopped using it (DD is 6 weeks). Worth spending the money (esp if you plan on having more DC's)....or look on ebay? If you're anywhere near me, you're welcome to have it.

That's really nice of you pinner, I'm in Gloucestershire. If not I might have to go for the wedge. Thanks for the replies.

I have a basic pregnancy pillow from Mothercare that's just the size of 2 pillows end to end. It's great and I can't sleep without it, but I actually had it pre-pregnancy as I have to sleep on my side normally because of a back issue, but have hip issues if I don't have a side pillow.

I've got a memory foam mattress, but it's now too hard so I'm thinking of getting a soft memory foam topper. We have one on our spare bed and it's lovely.

Have you looked into getting specialist massage to help your pain? I get it monthly anyway but am now thinking of increasing my appointments to every 2-3 weeks. Expensive but worth it!

i have the carla wedge pillow as above, and it came with the u shaped pillow which i put in between my legs and the other end under my side have been using since about ten weeks and still using at 38 weeks. i got mine from tk maxx though - both for £20, which is a bargain.

Bumperlicious · 02/06/2010 22:03

I've looked in TK Maxx as I have heard tell of dream geniis being sold there but haven't seen anything.

Actually, they have 5ft bolster pillows for a fiver on ebay. I wonder whether to go for that or the wedge?

A wedge will help you stay on your side but won't help your legs and hips.
