Hello all,

Just a quick question, I really fancy swimming at the local lido now I'm on maternity leave & have the spare time - however at almost 8 months pregnant was wondering if anyone knew whether 17degrees is too cold?? I know the little ones have problems regulating their temp, but can't find info anywhere about what's too cold..

Huge thx in advance

I went in Brockwell Lido recently at 37 weeks and it was lovely. I did feel the bump go all tight and maybe it was a bit of a shock for the little one, I don't know. I guess they are quite well insulated?

Um, you live in the UK right? Not Alaska? Or can we expect to see you doing the doggy paddle in Dutch Harbour on the next episode of the Deadliest Catch? Seriously... has your vagina sprung a leak?

Alouiseg · 02/06/2010 16:24

17 would be too cold for me! My minimumswimming temp is 27 but only on a flaming hot day.

claribelou · 02/06/2010 16:29

I'm 20 weeks and looking forward to a summer of swimming in the Brixton Lido unless anyone tells me otherwise!

Thanks for all your replies - I guess pregnancy brings out the paranoia! No leaks yet Skihorse... just give me a few more weeks!!

I think it's more up to you than anything. 17 degrees isn't cold enough that your core body temp would drop, so it's whether you like it or hate it.

Im 20 weeks and planning to go to Paliament Hill Lido next weekend. I was more concerned about the bugs to be honest (the Serpentine Lido makes me cringe) but I think it must be safe!

I went swimming in the sea at Croyde a couple of weeks ago. 37 weeks and don't think the baby minded

Wallace · 11/07/2010 16:28

So what is too cold then? We go swimming in Highland rivers (still talking snow melt!) and my gut feeling is that it would be a wee bit cold to immerse myself.

Wallace · 12/07/2010 07:10

Bump just in case summer comes back...

SoBloodyTired · 12/07/2010 07:27

Morning Wallace! We went to the river last weekend and much as I was tempted I didn't go in past my waist, which isn't like me! DS and DP had great fun, despite being blue by the time they got out. Either I'm a wimp when pregnant or instinct sets in and says no to snowmelt. I prefer to think it's the latter. Didn't brave the sea at Nairn yesterday either . Hope you're keeping well - we'll have to have a get-together sometime.

Wallace · 12/07/2010 07:31

Hello! Yes I think you're right about the instincts thing. Was it not just a tad cold at Nairn to even be thinking about swimming?

I doing fine (half-way there at last!) How are you getting on? Would love another meet up

SoBloodyTired · 12/07/2010 07:41

Just had a sudden thought you maybe wouldn't know who I was, sorry! But you seem to have worked it out . I'm pretty much either working or away for the rest of the month but then it's back to normal for a fortnight until mat leave starts so I'll give you a shout. We could go paddling

porcamiseria · 12/07/2010 09:13

they are so well insulated , relax

Wallace · 12/07/2010 10:07

I'd better just check I hace worked it out...pond dipping? Hopefully weather will be nice and we could go paddling! Our there is always the park in G near the docs.

Re cold water swimming it isn't so much the baby getting cold I'm worried about. More the shock to my system...

SoBloodyTired · 12/07/2010 17:20

Yes, that's me!

I definitely think I'm less able to cope with such extremes when pregnant. I am a delicate flower, me
